I could care less to be honest. I pre-odered it about two months ago so when it comes out ill play it and milk it for everything it has. If its good ill keep it, if not ill put it on amazon. Simple as that...

I really haven't had any interest whatsoever in Final Fantasy XIII. The series just kind of lost me halfway into XII, although I have put considerable time into the FFIII for the DS.

I do think that FFXIII suffers considerably from the developers making graphics too high a priority, as well as simply being too stuck in their old ways to realize that there are better compromises. Someone from Square-Enix recently went so far as to claim that a Final Fantasy VII remake would take them over 10 years to make, and that can only be because they're incapable of thinking outside of the box they've grown accustomed to.

Il buy it but not keeping my hopes up, square have been lazy here and are relying on the brand name alone to make it sell which is will. Mass effect is a much better rpg imho :P.

Versus XIII has been my main interest since the beginning. Considering the team of people who are making it I am expecting it to do very well. Ha maybe by the time they are close to finishing it they might consider it as FFXV (I don't see a reason to consider it a part of the XIII series). If Versus XIII fails you may be right to quit FF.

Oh how I've been waiting for this..I was on the website too reading up on final fantasy XIII. I was very excited until I saw that, and my friends being such a fanboy, tried to justify everything and will not hesitate to buy it. I love final fantasy but won't buy that poor excuse of a game. There are no towns to go through, it is just: cutscene > dungeon > boss battle > cutscene and back to the dungeon..I also read that somebody taking part in creating this game wanted to be a film director or something, and was very impressed with advent children, so maybe that is why this "game" is called a movie.

You mean just like the Xenosaga trilogy for the PS2.

Its been done before, and it works. The Xenosaga trilogy was cut scene after cut scene with a "dungeon", a little combat and a boss fight broken up with even more cut scenes, heck... I'd be bold enough to assume half your play time was due to cut scenes (optional time spent level grinding not counted)... yet it was, and still is, a fantastic game to play.

If it plays like a movie, however, it had just better have a story line worthy of sitting through it.

everyone's going to have an opinion before and after actually playing the game. whether it be legit game reviewers or just a friend. if it's good, it doesn't necessarily mean you will think so too. if it's bad, it still shouldn't stop you from playing it if you were initially interested. basically, every game has its pros and cons. pros and cons vary from person to person. what bothers one might not even be a big deal to another.

i'm just going to rent the game when it's available. see what i personally think of it, if it's worth the buy.

this is stupid honestly if you're uncertain if you want to buy it rent it. if these silly arguments convince not to even play then you didn't really care much to begin with. I'll prolly read some review before buying it but even if they say its no good I'll still rent it.

i mean everyone praised 12 but i hated it because of the lack of focus on the story. so if this game is more story focused I'm all for it. could care less about linearity. after all most games are linear they only offer an illusion of being open ended by giving you a bunch of sidequests but ultimately there's only one path to take in the main quest.

Wasn't FF VII also linear?
The main storyline was completely "Go here, fight, get some story, go to the next point in the story, swap discs, continue." They made it feel non-linear with side quests and stuff but all that was just mini-games and unlockables. SO if by saying that FF XIII is linear, are they (the critics) trying to say that it lacks mini games? The main reason for the open world in FF series (I've only ever played 4 and 7) wasn't so that you could do the story in an non-linear way, but to enhance the experience of the game's linear story with unlockables, secrets and mini-games . Did they take a more Left 4 Dead linear approach with FF XIII? L4D and L4D2 are more like a movie than any I've ever played and it works... So, why would it be a bad thing for FF XIII to have a semblance of the popular Movie/Game genre?

Sorry, but like most people, unless I play it first, I'm going to reserve my judgement. Critics sometimes get it wrong, some may even take money under the table to rate a game one way or the other. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Lets respect people who dislike the game just as much as we respect those who embrace the game and work together to offer up suggestions to the developer as to what we would like to see in the next installment, if any.

Lol mindless follower? Why would I not purchase a game because its linear or not completly bug free? Not to mention most of the games I buy are second hand so few of the titles I have actually support the industry. I think its silly to debate so much on a game that isnt even out yet ( for US atleast) for all we now it could be a completly kick ass game. Like I said I could care less, If its a flop then ill get rid of it and no harms done.

Buying games is like buying stocks, you dont always get the most return out of your investment but that shouldnt stop you from trying to build your "portfolio".

I speak from experience because I've played the game and I'm arguing with more people because they're trying to put up the argument, "Well it's only the first part of the game," when that is not true at all. While others, like yourself, are buying the game for it's title, and not because it's an actual RPG. Me? I just feel it's smarter to rent something that so obviously not true to it's name then to say, "Oh well, its FFXII. I'm gonna get it anyway." As for reselling it, good luck with that and getting near what you paid for it. One of my friends ended up pawning hers because no shops would take em for a good price and she didnt want to bother sell online and getting such a cheap price. And that's the Jpn market she was dealing with =/

And buying games is not like buying stock. Please do not make such a comparison ever again. It's no offense to you and I'm not trying to be a smartass, I've just dealt with stocks too long to hear such an uncouth comparison. Goddamn microsociety school...

The critics aren't saying the game is bad... they're saying it's linear (which RPGs are NOT supposed to be). There's no arguing that, it's a fact. And saying critics get it wrong or implying that some may be underhanded seems like you're looking for excuses for them. Like there's just no way it could be as they're saying.

Denial much?

Angry troll is angry, and uneducated.

Here is a definition of the word "uncouth"

1 a. archaic : not known or not familiar to one : seldom experienced : uncommon, rare b. obsolete : mysterious, uncanny
2 a. : strange or clumsy in shape or appearance : outlandish b. : lacking in polish and grace : rugged <uncouth verse> c. : awkward and uncultivated in appearance, manner, or behavior : rude

You're an idiot, and a troll
