Cabinet endorses bill toward civil service reform
Saturday 20th February, 03:59 AM JST
The cabinet of Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on Friday endorsed a bill to establish a new bureau that will comprehensively manage appointments of senior officials at all government offices.
The Democratic Party of Japan-led government, which has sought to wrest policymaking power from bureaucrats in the central government, aims to submit the bill to parliament and clear it by the end of March so the new bureau, which will be set up in the Cabinet’s Secretariat, can work from April 1.
