Thanks to everyone and all of your enthusiasm for these films. From all the posts and discussion over the past two days it really shows that these films connect with people. Shinkai is currently working on his next film and I know that I can't wait for it to come out. Looks like a lot of you will be psyched for it's release as well

All these films are just so beautiful. I'm so happy that I was able to watch all three this weekend, instead of only one like I originally thought.
5 Centimeters Per Second is my favorite, and the The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Though I also love Voices of a Distant Star. |

everydaygamer wrote: also why are these films only available once a year? always hard to find dvd's for films like these. I am grateful to see these films again, and agree with you that the films are hard to find in a physical format. Have you seen the astronomical prices currently listed by re-sellers for the now out-of-print ADV release of 5 Centimeters per Second? I can only hope that this Global Shinkai Day will soon be followed with an announcement that these films will be packaged in a box set. Blu-Ray please? If any animated works deserve a Blu-Ray release, it is these. It also astounds me that 5 Centimeters is relatively unknown among film junkies outside of Japan, and us anime fans. These Shinkai films, especially 5 Centimeters, are MASTERPIECES! It is, IMO, an absolute crime to let any of these works go out-of-print. |

It is, IMO, an absolute crime to let any of these works go out-of-print. 5cm per second is in print (in Australia), it should be coming out in the UK in a few months (which should have BD). Why no one licence rescued them I have no idea, unless they are simply too expensive, ADV lost 5cm per second fairly quickly when they started cost cutting. |
