I know there are a bunch of cosplay related thread already but most of them are picture threads, and the rest don't have anything relevant to my questions.

Just wondering, how do you guys make your cosplays or do you guys buy them/commission them?
Is it cheaper/faster just to make it your self? I've never made a cosplay before nor do I know where to look for materials, so i figured it'd be easier to just ask around.

How do they make your measurements if you order from someone/company anyway, do they just guess with small/med/large? xD

I got my Ciel Costume from ebay before , and it's likely to be cheaper making it yourself depending on the materials you bought .
If you know a tailor who can tailor make it , that would be fine .

If you're getting a 2nd hand costume , it's better to ask the seller for measurements even if it stat a S, M or XL .
Custom making , you either do your own measurements if you're having it made from another country , or look at the charts given if the seller has it on their site .

So is being a douchebag and not respecting a persons' decision.

I don't cosplay, but I think it looks so much nicer when people make it themselves.
The costumes people buy on Ebay or other online stores make it in the most cheapest way possible.
Cheap material.... It's not pretty...
Not only that, costumes look best when they're fitted with a persons' exact measurements.

some cosplay turns out pretty good, and if you really have something against it at least express it in politically correct terms.

Sorry, that's a different story.
I didn't really think about that.
I think you really would have to depend on internet resources for that.
But if you were looking for the most realistic ones,
you should try getting one that's actually been made in Japan.

You can always try a Japanese shopping agent too.
I actually got to meet up with one during my trip to Japan for an interview.
How that works is that you visit their website, write a short description of whatever you're looking for, and they'll try to find it and send it to you as long as you pay the amount they paid plus a small service fee.

Cosplay costs money, and all of your dignity.

A few people seem to think the topic of this thread says 'Cosplay haters post your rubbish here!'

As far as my cosplay expenses have gone, it costs less to do it yourself, but it's definitely harder to get a good standard of quality. The two costumes I made myself saved me maybe 50-70AUD, but I wasn't happy with them. Next convention I go to I'm going to go in a costume I ordered, instead of one I made.

That said, I'm not really any good at tailoring, if you have the skills to make something phenomenal, then go for it!

thats the problem though, all the sites I tried to find cosplay costumes in only show a picture of the anime character or a low resolution picture of the premade which doesnt really tell me much about what I am going to get..
Any suggestions on where I can find a good site for buying cosplays, or even parts?

The forum only requires me to offer a topic that includes discussable content.
The cost of cosplay is pretty important to a cosplayer or someone trying to make them. The question does not apply to ALL the users of crunchyroll but I am sure some people would find this topic/question relevant to what they have to offer.

The only thing personal about this was that I ran into this specific problem, which turns out to be a pretty general and discussable problem, unlike special case bugs or questions like those in general help thread.
