I've never cosplayed before but I look at it as getting ready for Halloween (which is my fav. holiday). Depending on how serious you are as to the quality and fit of your costume. I used to make mine, but I started planning it almost 6 months before. You have to go to fabric shops to see what is available. Looking through paterns...they don't always come specific but if you look deep enough you see different parterns that piece together to make what you want. Same goes for accessories. Weapons can be made out of foam, styrofoam, cardboard, duct tape, foil, anything lightweight because you'll have to carry it. You just have to tap into your creative side. It does cost money but when you spread it out over the few months, a little at a time isn't too hard. I've also ordered costumes before but most had the "cheap" feel and look to them. Use only for convenience and expected to get raped by the cost.

Stop flaming each other. This is a Cosplay cost thread, not "insult your fellow user fest" thread.

Any further flaming will bear consequences higher than posts being deleted.

Any question needed to be answer please refer to the link above.

How is it a personal thread? Just wondering.

Because she's asking a question for cr to know the cost, and is wondering herself if she can make it herself or buy it. Essentially her point is asking how much is the cost , since she wants to know herself if its cheap or not. (meh x] )

Seems pretty open for discussion to me, that's how it looks like to me at least.

thats the problem though, all the sites I tried to find cosplay costumes in only show a picture of the anime character or a low resolution picture of the premade which doesnt really tell me much about what I am going to get..
Any suggestions on where I can find a good site for buying cosplays, or even parts?

Sorry, I only know of Japanese cosplay sites.
Even though people might not think it is reliable, I think Ebay is a pretty good resource.
Try asking around in the cosplay groups on CR.

Do your job and ban them, stop being so lazy.

Well, if you were going to cosplay, I would just buy it. But making it yourself would make it more... i don't know, original, which is a good thing! Making it would show how creative you are.

I don't do cosplay though.

You do realize no one "has" to do anything. AHTL is not a paid employee of a company. I know it sucks to see the forums you use get mucked up by stupid posts and arguements but try to remember that the mods that do work on it are volunteers and honestly not really all that different from normal users. I know I have to pay my CR sub anyway.

They make you pay the monthly fee? How cruel. You work for them yet still pay them? What is this a sweat shop? If I were you, I would quit. Unfortunately I can't make decisions for you. Though I can recommend options. Are the people who run CR Jewish by any chance?

I don't consider it work when I actually enjoy what I am doing, especially when I spend less time a week on it than I do on watching the shows on the site. (which I watch too much off) One day you will have a real job and you will get what I mean, cause trust me being a library mod on CR is hardly "work" and I certainly don't feel like I am being run down by the man.

Either way thats enough off topic if you want to rag on me about for my weird ideas on moddom feel free to pm it.

I agree, if you get the job you like, it doesn't feel like work. But none the less, it's my time, and I'd prefer to get paid regardless of wether I like the job or not. Even if it only takes me an hour a week. But, maybe I'm just being rational. As for being off topic, I'll make a brief post about the topic then.

Cosplay seems to be for children. Grown people dressing up in costumes, it's quite ridiculous.

I know there are a bunch of cosplay related thread already but most of them are picture threads, and the rest don't have anything relevant to my questions.

Just wondering, how do you guys make your cosplays or do you guys buy them/commission them?
Is it cheaper/faster just to make it your self? I've never made a cosplay before nor do I know where to look for materials, so i figured it'd be easier to just ask around.

How do they make your measurements if you order from someone/company anyway, do they just guess with small/med/large? xD

Decided to look around a bit.

Who's into cosplay?
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-1750/whos-into-cosplay/

Both this thread and the the one Shoehee posted are suited for this.
