If I was a moderator on a website, I think that going by the book is the best approach to handling things.

How about everyone else?

Well if I'm to actually address the main topic, I say book shmook. Although it would be important to enforce your rules I don't think mods should crack down. It should be an atmosphere where posters can feel comfortable about posting their opinions without worrying about being reported for silly reasons. Something along those lines I'm sure.

I've seen a thread like this before, but the search engine isn't working properly to find it

I'd fix & rule crunchyroll with a iron fist. the forums & group & etc. would be be spotless under a matter of minutes.
