I've looked for a couple hours now for a topic on this matter, or information anywhere else. I really expected there to be a topic, I can't be the first to notice, but I can't find one so I'll address it myself.

I've recently stumbled upon this surprising message across the top of several shows:

At midnight on March 1, 2010, [SERIES NAME] will no longer be available on CR. Our apologies for the inconvenience and hope that you will take the time to enjoy it now.

Naturally as of this time, that has already been enacted.

The first I saw was a show I was fond of (but fortunately had already watched on CR), Chrono Crusade. A great show indeed. But I navigated from there to Gonzo's page, and saw most of their shows have been removed with this warning. Curious for info I noted that all the ones missing that I examined were licensed by ADV Films (at some point), but that's not an area I wanted to dig around in too much.

A side matter that raises my concern further is that I saw the store/download-to-own service is being canceled on March 31 in the near future. That matter is easier to understand, as it put myself as well in a difficult position for viewing a show I wanted to see legally. The difficulty has led to it yet still being unwatched.
This matter alongside the less vibrant quantity of [anime] series picked up this season has me more worried than is normally in my nature to do.

My primary desire is to hear an explanation. I don't want to be making the theories myself, as such theorizing is the nature of unfavorable rumors. Beyond the problem itself, I'd like to know why this was only made known within the series themselves. I know it's not the most business-suited idea to announce it as site news, but presenting it site-wide in that yellow box at the top seems like a fair idea.

I'd be among the last to cancel my subscription to CR, as I'm finally paying off my debts to those I have loved. But the pulling of so many videos is the first impact I've taken to my faith.

If open discussion is not permitted, I'll patiently ask again in a 1 on 1 medium.

I don't remember where but BasouKazuma commented on this issue in a different thread. To make a long story short those series were always going to be cut off on that date but for some reason some of them did not have that posted on their pages until too late. You are correct though these were mostly shows that were already available in the US on DVD and had long since seen public release. As for how it was posted, well it was supposed to be done just like Fairy Tale where every episode has a bit about it below the synopsis. Why not put a banner up at the top of the page.... well would you rather advertise your ipad give away or how you are about to cancel however many shows because the contract has run out? The info wasn't staring you in the face no, but it was not hidden either the problem was some of the effected shows slipped through the cracks and didn't get identified.

Could it have been done better? Sure. We both know some of the series didn't get properly labeled. But this is something that was going to happen from the beginning, no one has "pulled out" or anything so dramatic.

It was expected from the start? Well that makes enough sense to be understandable. I do appreciate hearing that.

However that sure was a large number of good shows that bore the appearance of disappearing. Well if it was planned, that raises a new worry. Are there other old and complete series here that are expected to be taken away? I'd thus far been casually putting aside complete series as low priority so as to watch shows of the current season. It would be nice to easily distinguish at a distance.

It's looking like limited availability will continue to show up in the future. Even among current series the availability notes are getting overlooked. I'd like to assume that improved noting is already in the thoughts of some. I'll suggest making it visual with a well observed icon, such as an hourglass, or a red border around the premium star.

DItto.

I'm still PISSED about Zeta being taken down right in the middle of me watching an episode. That's what I get for closing the browser for a minute to focus on my email.

Am I paying for limited service or am I paying of unlimited access? I am running out of reason to pay if this trend continues.
