Shut up, community.

Support Admin:

I doubt there will be a News post since it would just be filled with people saying "There was a chatroom?" and such; plus it would bump off the currently running contests from the front page. So the message on the chat pages should suffice.

(source)

Hear hear, people. That's how much they value you. Apparently you're not deserving enough to get PROPERLY posted on such major changes such as the removal of an entire feature, neither do you have the right to receive a proper official explanation.

And then the disgusting presumptions that are being made about the community itself;
"There will be no News post since the community is too retarded, and would only post bullshit in the News post. So why should we keep them posted anyway? "<---- most basic interpretation of quoted excerpt

To the other, can anyone see the irony behind this tiny excerpt 'it would just be filled with people saying "There was a chatroom?" ' ?
When even a support admin claims that this never-going-to-exist News post will be filled with people who don't even know that there was a chat, then that pretty much says it all.

Volunteer staff's opinion = irrelevant
Community's opinion = irrelevant

Well, we love you, too, but hey...what does it matter? Our opinions are not important anyway.

/snicker

So, COMMUNITY, what's your opinion of that? Is this how a community should be regarded? I mean, think about it. If the support admin has already such a low opinion of the community, what will those on top of him think?

Anyway, GOOD BYE FOLKS. Just wanted to keep you posted on how this place is being run as a farewell present. Have a nice time.

I think; no matter what they are removing, they are just fucked up to hide / nor not telling it that it's being removed. The community has the RIGHT to know what is happening on this site.

If an uninteresting anime is being removed due nobody is watching it, okey, they can remove it without telling because nobody cares.

BUT, removing the chat without telling the community as news, is just plain bullshit.

This thread should be kept open only because I believe what this user is saying is legit and should be herd, but should the topic become a warzone, it will be closed.

Either way I agree. I believe there should have been a thread explaining that the chat would be discontinued, but alas, I’m just a Forum Moderator. When it comes to decisions about how the site is ran I only have little say, so do the other moderators. It has already been decided, and I’m sorry to sound so pessimistic, but I don’t believe there’s anything you can do to change this situation involving the chat being closed. Messages have been sent, groups have been created, and there have even been petitions.

If it weren't for the community, Crunchyroll wouldn't have made it to where it is today. It is the responsibility of the community staff to hear the opinions of users, but when those opinions aren't herd, then what will become of the site? Makes me sad.

Chatroom was losing popularity even when it was being maintained and was being promoted on the top nav bar (was promoted there up until Feb 2009 I think) . So there's no need to put it back on the top bar to see how popular it would be because we already have that data. Of course it would be more popular if it was promoted on the top bar but that still would not make it popular.

He's right, it probably would just be filled with trash. Since the chat room wasn't that popular, and messages were left there for the people that do use it, I agree that it doesn't need a news post. You make it sound like he's shitting on the community, but sparing us a news post about a chat room most people don't care about that bumps down relevant notices is actually doing the community a favour.

Here's how I look at it. The Forum mod said that at this point there is nothing that you can do about it. Yet that is absolutely not true. There are quite a few things you can do. Crunchyroll, although you can attend the website for free, is in fact a legitimate business that makes money off of it's paying participants. All you have to do is punish them the same way a customer would punish any business. Stop attending the website, stop paying for the websites services. Post a message on your profile explaining your reasons for not attending the website. Soon enough, if the chat room is that important to enough people, many people will leave the website and either cr will say to themselves, "We're losing valued customers as well as money because of this reason" and then fix the problem, or they will not care about losing the customers or money, and then you can move on to finding a better website. It's your choice. You as a participant of this website have the power. It's not the creator of the website that says whether or not a site will be popular, it's the users.

People come here for anime and Drama, not chatrooms. People aren't going to sacrifice what they actually come here for over something trivial like an unpopular chat room. I agree, it's us who have the power of popularity. However, just like a workers strike, it only works if everyone is in on it.

Considering that I pay for premium membership for anime, and that's what I really come here for, they could ban chatrooms, forums, news updates, just about anything that isn't anime, and I'd still keep coming, and I'd still keep paying.

Well not to be rude, but then that's your view on it. Never did I once say that my idea is significantly successful. My idea is to allow people to think to themselves, "Why do I like this website?". Some people might say, "One of the reasons I like this website is because of the chat room." If those users are serious about that claim then it would only make sense for them to want to leave the website, and surprisingly that can in fact have a significant impact on the website. It's not guaranteed, but it does work. It's been a successful tactic many times before.

The moderators do not get much of a say in these type of issues. It's funny how we moderators mainly mod the community aspects of cr yet we get little input in matters such as this. I like the community aspect of cr. Rather than other websites that stream animes, the community sector of cr is what gives it the edge and encourage many users to be active on the site. Especially when cr went legit, many stayed because of their buddies here.

In response to some posts above, many users come here but not watch the animes or dramas. Some users here, like me, are drama fans yet the dramas here are not made availble in our regions. Yet we still come on cr to chat to our buddies, meet new people, check updates and what not.

Community is always important.

I said it before, and I'll say it again.

I wrote a 9 paragraph essay about how stupid it is to kill the chat and how hectic the forums will be if it's gone. But then I deleted it knowing no admin will ever take a look at my post nor this thread for that matter. It really bothers me how much this site has lost it's connection with it's users. I really wonder who's brilliant idea it was to come up with the fact that the chat is completely pointless but crunchyland and the car section is completely needed. You really are a genius, aren't you?

Who's "you guys"? If you people noticed we have absolutely no power on what goes around on this site. All we do is mod the areas we were sent out to. No one ever listens to us, or takes our opinion to consideration. Do you think anyone ever came to us and asked "hey guys! I'm planning to cut down the chat. What do you guys think about this idea?" NO
Some users even find out things before we do.
I have never really spoken to shinji about site matters unless it's about a bug. The only person who can get through to him is BK and I haven't seen him say his opinion about the chat.

Guess the chat doesn't bring in a lot of dough unlike g.b entries or forums. =___=;
I don't really care much about the announcement. But the fact that they're still tearing down the chat when there are so many users complaining, the chat mods who weren't even told or informed before hand, and how hard it is to reach an admin. The only admin we can talk to is BK. Why is it only bk when there are so many others admins on the staff page?

Well hey, I'm a user on cr that does not use this website as an Anime or Drama outlet. Why do I come on here? I will tell you, I come here to talk with people, participate on forums, and chat about various things that are related to my interests which sometimes does include chatting about Anime. This website has become a second networking site for me where I can talk to people about various things while still retaining my Anonymity. My profile does not have my correct age or where I live or what are all my personal interests, but that doesn't prevent people from wanting to talk to me about various interesting subjects or participating in groups or even participating in the community chat room.
I am one of those users that does not pay to be on here and yet still enjoys participating in the webs various activities.

It is pretty concerning how the admin don't even take into account the moderators position on these things...
Ah yikes... I never used the chat much myself cause I like spellchecking before I hit enter and a lot of people I saw on it were narutards tbh.
So while I'm pretty neutral about the whole chat going down thing, I'm rather shocked as to how nobody was asked about this...

And ShroomInferno? You're not really going are you? You've been one of those names I've seen everywhere on this forum ever since I was a noob...
