By the way, is Hitagi Senjougahara really a tsundere? SHAFT seems to depict her as one although it seems to be not actually obvious.

My understanding is that she tries to make fun of the stereotypes associated with the tsundere - a sort of "dissection" if you will. She is perhaps only a tsundere in how harsh her external approach may be towards araragi, and how this culminates with the "star gazing scene"... but if you were to ask me, her actions are UNLIKE a tsundere in the sense that she means EVERYTHING she says. She's disinhibited, but she HONEST with her feelings. A typical tsundere is oftentimes not honest with themselves, to the point that they are stubborn, and eventually impart the opposite of their emotions to the other party - very unlike Senjougahara.

She's more yandere than tsundere, if you were to ask me. Lol.

How comprehensive.

Although I know that some of Rie's roles aren't purely tsundere, there's just this attached image to her. If it isn't a tsundere, it's probably a loli, or both. The only notable exception may very well be Al from FMA.

Mizore from Rosario + Vampire wasn't a tsundere character, either.

Well, Tsundere just happened to be one of the popular type of girl in Japan.

Let's not forget ;
- Yandere
- Loli
- Moe girls

There are well done tsunderes which I like then there are generic cookie cutter tsunderes which I don't mind and then there are the flat out insane bipolar kind which typically are a horrible exaggerated version of the generic kind which I find very stupid. Generally though I do like them and I do like their abuse of the male mcs as cliche as it is because to me it's like they are resisting the plot that demands they fall in love with a generic no personality denser than lead idiot mc which they so often tend to be.

Tsundere characters are just a part of any anime series, like obentos and the trip to the beach ep. Even if you hate em, your favorite series wouldn't be the same without em.

Madoka (from Kimagure Orange Road 1984-1987), the ORIGINAL tsundere character, was like that.

She was the first. These new ones nowadays are just simplified versions with relatively little character development, which is a part of the reason why they're disliked...

Madoka was a very complex character, she can be very kind and romantic but only if you catch her at the right times. She does not get into a fight very easily but does so to protect her best friend.

She was the real deal, not these exaggerated over-violent ones of today.
