Why yes.

A new law in the UK concerning 'dangerous cartoons' has been introduced today.

http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk/wp/?page_id=547

Manga or anime with young-looking protagonists in sexual situations has now been classified “non-photographic visual depictions of child sexual abuse” and is now illegal, with a possible sentence of a 3 year prison term and being listed on the Sex Offenders Register.

The worst thing is, this applies to an awful lot of hentai, ecchi and more mainstream works of anime and manga. If arrested for something on your hard drive (including stuff you deleted) it would be shown to a jury and even one still from anime or a single image from manga is enough to convict.

You may well have something on your HD now that makes you a sex criminal under this law. Worse still, you could read the letter of the law and still not be able to tell what counts and what doesn't as a "dangerous cartoon".

For instance, there are a few shows here on CR that could, if in a legal prosecution situation. *That* scene with naked Shizuku in Omamori Himari may now count in the UK as a “non-photographic visual depiction of child sexual abuse”.

So fear for your hentai and fear for your ecchi, probably your yaoi and your yuri, and most certainly any lolicon or shotacon. Fear for your dojins, and fear for your 4chan.

or, of course, stand up for your rights, and protest loudly and bitterly from every metaphorical rooftop of the internet, before this thought crime law has a chance to abuse personal freedoms and makes oblivious criminals!

Wow, that's really lame. This sounds similar to that proposed Tokyo law I saw posts on a few weeks ago. If they're really gonna go this route they need to make it very specific and not just a blanket approach that's hard (if not impossible) to figure out what it actually covers.

Sorry, U.K people. Hopefully, the country I'm in won't be influenced by that law. Because I unintentionally read mature or ecchi-genre mangas. And I have a slight liking for 'em as well. ._.

I.... No, there are no words to describe this country anymore.

Out of all of our problems and foolish laws this is actually fairly minor but get a lot of 'fairly minor' problems and they make one hell of a large pile of fecking problems

It's this roundabout way the smug bastards in westminster try and tackle our problems.
"Oh the kids are stabbing each other on the streets, I KNOW! Let's talk to them nicely even though we already know that's not working."
"Oh there's a lot of violence in pubs and clubs by drunk people, I KNOW! Let's put the tax up on alcohol, forcing pub closure, making casual drinkers stay at home and leaving the ones who cause the problems a bit poorer, but still fighting"
"Oh we're worried for our children, I KNOW! Let's ban taking photos at your own child's sports day in case you're a secret, cloaked paedophile, set to pounce on other people's defenceless children."
"Oh we're worried about gun crime, I KNOW! Let's ban all legal pistols which already have tight legislation, monitoring and control and which are never used in actual crime! That'll fix it!"
"Oh we're in debt and it's breaking the country, I KNOW! Let's borrow more, create more government jobs of pointlessness and force most of our high end businesses (Which make up most of our remaining industry) overseas with 50% tax on high earners! That'll fix it!"

I know the election's coming up, but who to vote for? They're all either leftist, fantasising idiots who will continue this 'Run when you should fight, fight when you should abstain', or blatant racist spastics who would introduce a police state and generally knacker us all.

I fucking despair and give up, just a couple more years and I can emmigrate. Counting the bloody days.

Doesn't really affect me seeing I'm not really into that stuff but isn't "non-photographic visual depictions of child sexual abuse" a bit vague? I can see a lot of trouble drawing the line with these sort of things.

Maybe we can get away with a caption saying "no actual children were harmed in the production of this footage"
