I find it amusing that it’s alright for somebody to ask us to play there is no God, but any time I’ve said, “Just assuming there is a God,” nobody feels the need to participate in that debate. I think I’m going to make a counter thread for this…

Anyway, if there was no God then this world would be utterly pointless. I’d go around doing whatever the hell I want, and screw whoever I effect. How’s that sound? No God= no right or wrong except perception= no right or wrong except what -people- -decide- is right or wrong= no right or wrong period.

Seraph, I hope you're kidding me. Humans CAN decide what is right and wrong, they really can. There's a lot of thing YOU find right/wrong that is NOT in the bible. There are tons of things, murdering like mad because you know there is no hell is pretty stupid. Because you go to the human version of hell, Jail, which isn't as bad, but it's still what it is. Doing good things just because your bible tells you = wrong. Because the only bad thing you see in doing those things is, the fact you're probably going to hell for it. That's making you selfish, and an ass hole. You're just trying to be a happy person so you can have a fun time in heaven when you die, if it even exists. I mean you don't need to kill people because you know of no hell or heaven, you have to know OTHER reasons why it's right/wrong to do such things... I'm not at all religious and you don't see me killing people like a mad man do you? No, you really don't. I'm sorry that you're saying you're one hell of a weak person without your religion. That's pretty sad.

Humans can decide what’s right and wrong? Well, looking at it like that, then why the hell do we have baby genocide legal? Obviously Human’s cannot choose what’s right and wrong because they’re only going to pick what’s most convenient. They’re prejudice against anything that is going to put them off.

Anyway, I wasn’t being serious. I was being sarcastic. Besides, that’s some of the most hypocritical crap I’ve ever seen. Plus, my views on what’s right and wrong has nothing to do with being strong or weak.

Here’s my thinking, and I don’t plan to argue it: In society people do whatever they personal desire. So we put down laws. However, to put down these laws we need somebody with control, otherwise they wont be respected. In other words civilians can’t just walk up to each other and say, “This is against the law because I don’t like it.” No. There must be somebody of a higher status in order for law to be worthy of respect. Morality works the exact same way.

Now if there were no God I would still try and be a “good” person. But for completely different reasons. Rather than wanting to do what is right I would simply try and be a “good” person because it would be politically expected and acceptable.

First there would be shock. Then denial. Think of the many "deathblows" that science has delivered to religion. Philosophies have simply shifted "it's only a flesh wound!" I doubt that religion would go down without a fight, or atleast a difficult to disprove counter-argument.

However, if we are really facing this hypothetical coup de grace to religion, I still think that it would take a while for anything to actually happen. I predict that some extremists wouldn't budge an inch (ie. the Ku Klux Clan after the civil war, the Amish after the industrial revolution).

However, I think that religion would continue on. Christianity would probably continue on with a new set of philosophies remarkably similar to those of the band "The Polyphonic Spree". Look at religions like Confucianism; just being alone isn't enough to keep people from their philosophical "synchronized swimming".

Rambling on further, I also doubt that there will be a gunshot when religion dies. There won't be riots or a "moral apocalypse" (to quote M.C. Hawkings). The pious will just face the same battle that the atheists face every day. The whole thing will probably be really forgettable, and I'm sure there will be billions of people in a rush to forget.

I'm curious about what this deathblow might look like. I'm thinking:
1) A giant Christmas Card "I don't exist. Love, God" (the f**ked up ending)
2) Multiple deities were to show up and engage in a free-for-all above downtown Tokyo. (less of a solution to the religion thing and more of a problem)
3) The appearance of a superior extra-terrestrial lifeform. (Did God say that you were his favorite, too? Awkward!)
4) Dolphins suddenly discover Tivo and rise to become the dominant lifeform. (All Hail Lord Flipper!)

That's an imaginable possibility, apart from that a very amusing post. However, could it happen that religion would be shunned and religious belief be a reason to feel ashamed? Religion being viewed as ridiculous as alchemy (although I guess even nowaday alchemy sounds just to exciting and promissing for some people to resist). And apart from a "moral apocalypse", which I don't think to be likely either, wouldn't there be a massive catch-up on the rather small and trivial sins?

I still think the situation in non-laical states would be most ineteresting, as the law there is involved with religious law, which would mean a death-blow not only to the church but the whole system of that state.

I doubt much would change. Loyal followers would still be living their lives as best as they could. They've been doing it for years, so why stop?

There are plenty of atheists who don't go around maiming and murdering others. Believing or not believing in God or an afterlife doesn't really have an effect on who you are a person. Or what you decide to do with your life.

...and a lot of people see the Bible and Gods as just a good guideline of how to live a good life...so if there were no Gods as a guideline, there would still be the Bible to take its place. *shrugs*

<_< I think people are taking this thread to seriously. she asked "if" there is no god what would happen. Not that there isn't one. If there was no god I think that some people would still try and make up religions to gain power over some people. I think some might get depressed because no god=no afterlife. I don't think that there would be mass crimes as long as we still have laws.

I think they would still believe in him(them) and ignore the "truth". People need something to believe to and hope and pray to.

^Hypothetically speaking, of course Just try to imagine it.

Would they still love their fellow humans even though no one tells them to? Would they still see a point in not doing harm to fellow humans, even if it makes no difference in the afterlife / they were convinced there's no afterlife? Would they all go crazy and commit all the sins they missed out on? Would they start worshipping molecules?

I'm pretty damn sure nothing would change. People believe what they want no matter what evidence is provided to them. People just don't like to accept drastic changes to their reality.

I'm sure you have read the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, so what we should do is list some of his more compelling arguments and let people debate Abraham's religions because that's what most of these god threads wind up becoming anyway. Maybe thats not such a good idea because half the responses in favor of god would look like this:
" I know god exists, because the bible says so."

That was mean maybe I need to go to bed lol

The question was "Wat if the was no God" well that means no religion without any god religion wouldnt exist but since people will believe in anything as long as there is proof they would know wats right or wrong but in my opinion alot of things might change like people becoming over protective becuz they might think there will be no afterlife, they would be always in fear, but since theres something called love and happiness, everyone would care for there love ones like family and friends but will they care for the poor ones will they only think of them selves more important than others? there might not be even any police cuz no one would risk there life just to protect a total stranger to them. It would be sad to imagine ppl bieng depress and miserable all the time!

btw the the bible is about stories and myth it was written by ppl but not by god but it doesnt mean that wat it says on the bible could be all real but since i believe in god i think the same as u oldkona

There are thousands of thoughts on the subject of how we were created, I think its just primitive to automatically assume the one thats right is that some "higher being" created us. If god DID exsist than why wouldn't he send us a "Second-Jesus" instead of sitting on some cloud watching the Earth destroy itself. Also, its obnoxious to say what you did: "GOD EXSISTS, HE'S REAL, DITCH YOUR BELIEFS AND FOLLOW CONFORMITY, GO WITH THE CROWD ON ONE OF THE BIGGEST WONDERS OF THE WORLD." Ya, up yours. Seriously, people reading this stop putting this crap on religeous forums, our beliefs are our beliefs, stop attempting to change us.....You just like those creepy people that come up to my door every Sunday and gimme a panphlet.

Stop attempting to change humain beliefs into what YOU think is correct.....We'll all find out what's what when we die. You wanna find out NOW how we were created, kill yourself. Noone cares. Personally, I'll wait and live a full life before I find out wheather my Human-to-human reincarnation beliefs are true or not. You wanna find out if Heaven and Hell exsists?? Go on, stab yourself. Find "God"

Think about it. I'm not bagging on you Christians I'm just sharing my thoughts with you guys. Don't you think going to Church on a specific day and basically bowing in your seats to praise you god relivant to Aboriginals dancing around a fire to praise their gods? Like, it seems primitive to me, thats just my opinion or freedom of speech.
