First, I love CrunchyRoll - except you really need to license more content for Europe. (I'm a Swede).

(Have you considered allowing a higher fee, the triple A Super Premium, to get the rest of the content?)

Anyway, my main issue is whether or not CrunchyRoll will abandon the Flash format and go with HTML5 movies instead? This way all of Crunchy would be available on the iPad and other devices that don't have Flash.

As far as I understand it, Crunchy wouldn't have to re-encode anything, but I'm guessing there might be DRM issues.

Shinji? Anyone?

As for the iPad issue, I recon they will make an iPad app like the one for the iPhone.
Should in other words not be a problem. And yes, I concur on the notion of licenses in Europe. From Norway myself.

Region Restrictions are generally non-negotiable since our Publishers don't always have the proper rights to distribute the shows worldwide. So regardless of how much a person pays, there would be legal red tape.

I believe there is going to be a dedicated iPad app and the current iPhone app should run on an iPad though.

As for HTML5, there's already a thread on this and we wouldn't have any plans for that at this time since the HTML5 standard isn't near completion.

Did you try using the iphone/ipod touch version? I don't know if CR has one, but from where I'm reading the iPad can use the existing apps unmodified.

I have no idea if this is true, since I own nothing apple.

I have several computers that are capable of playing back HTML5 video but not Flash (nor will they ever be able to due to the closed Flash format).

I would very much like to see HTML5 video as an alternative to the dying Flash format.
