Why do Asian countries have so many "Whitening skin" products?

Wow, what a pathetic comparison, and the sad thing is that it made no sense whatsoever. Continuing to further this conversation would be a fail on my part, seeing as you're too immature. And yes, everyone dose have their own opinion, but when that opinion is based off ignorance, then that's when I call bullshit.

As harsh as that sounds, I don't put up with it.

I wonder who's the immature one to start picking up a fight here? oh...so u're so noble! Your opinion is noble while others are bullshit? who u think u are? u're just way to ignorance to tell that it makes sence! When u said i'm bias, u're bullshitting! i didn't even said dark skin are bad! To each individual, he/she can either prefer whiter skin or darker skin. When U start to quote me in the 1st place & yet still sounds so rude, u have already failed on your part! Your parents didn't teach u some manners?

Thx for replying.

those whitening cream stuff are ok as long as they do not have any bad side effects that can harm people's health. Just let those girls use if they want! Sounds like u have something against those skin whitening products? I don't think they will look so white till they look like came from the dead from using those whitening products! =.= u exaggerated!

did not exaggerate... :\ can show u a pic if u want. i have nothing against it... u just seem totally against what im saying so im just defending ya noe? whatever...

i can only speak from my point of view, but i think its from years of brainwashing from the media and not being happy with yourself. i am a brown skin woman and i am 100% comfortable with my skin and i never had a problem with people "accepting" me for who i am. i think everyone should be happy with the skin they are in. i really don't understand how white skin can make someone more attractive, i also cant figure out how dark skin can make someone more attractive or unattractive, its just skin, plain and simple. that's just my opinion though, to each his own...

that's... like the perfect answer x] thats what my teacher in photography class said too (:

I suppose its like tanning products except it makes you pale instead of tanned. Same thing

Its just self-enhancement

yeaahh but do you think you can guess WHY people would rather change themselves from how they naturally where by slapping some product that came out of chemistry lab all over their skin because they don't like the way they are currently?

I don't think the reason is too complicated.
Some Asians just like having lighter skin.
They think it looks pretty, so they go for it.
I think that's all there is to it. =)

But do you think you could think even deeper and further than that? maybe... like "what kind of reasons perhaps, make asians prefer having whiter skin and the opposite for Caucasians?"

that's really sad... whites are not superior in anyway and yet they'd rather be white then how they were originally? that mite be identity crisis there

well.. the people living in some eastern asian countries find tanning to also be trendy, like japan
when you walk in the streets you might find a group of ganguros or gyarus (you know.. those really tanned japanese) wearing bright outfits. these people just want to stand out in the crowds of common white japanese
and this is why the tanning products sell well in japan

but in korea, a natural pale or white skin is considered as a pretty complexion, so whitening product sells better in that country

then thats why i think it depends on where you live and what kind of trends the people follow in your surroundings

it's not a racist thing but it seems the white conquerors have imparted a "color mentality" upon the natives.

darker skin = laborer
lighter skin = aristocrat/ilustrado

lighter skin means you're mestizo or "ilustrado". it's a definite proof of high status. you stay in the shade and bark orders like a bitch.

darker skin means you've been out in the fields too long planting rice, transporting goods and making life in general easier for the half breeds, purebloods and white washed.

nowadays lighter skin is a status symbol, next to dental braces.. (in mah country at least) it means you or your family have the money to burn on expensive things.

darker skin.. well.. means you're mucho pobre..

Well there was another person who answered a question like that...

that basically...

the people who were tanned in countries like that were the ones who worked a lot. and when caucasians came along and became all dominant... they stayed in doors much more often.. keeping their skin complexion very white... so maybe because of history like that, Tanned people are seen to be labourers and white people are seen to be rich, dominant, and have high authority.. but thats just one theory. Do you have any others?

I heard from my friend (whose filipino) that people in her country like to have light skin..to them it's beautiful..and same goes for Koreans they also like lighter skin...it's kinda like how the Caucasians like to have tanned colored skin in the US, but I don't know why though they even have lotion to have lighter skin.

Though im sure it isn't like ALL filipinos and Koreans and Caucasians think the same right? i noe some caucasians who prefer to look pale and some that go outside for long long periods of time JUSt to get a tan... i have a korean friend too (girl) who does like 8 sports outside and bathes in compliments about her nice orangey skin. Plus there is a comment about some philipinos prefering their own natural skin color i think a page or a few before this one... so not all are the same rite?

agree. on the other hand, white people (in predominantly white countries) who are tanned are likewise considered rich, etc. coz tanned skin shows that they can afford to go on vacation, like hang out in the beach or something..
