WoW has over 10 million followers, so I don't think it's possible to dethrone the behemoth with the second coming of a not-quite-so-enthralling game.
Guild Wars, and its expansions, were ok, but nothing to write home about. I was bored after playing it for a week, but I was also used to FFXI.
You could take away 4 million of WoWs members and you'd still have more subscribers than the entire population of Massachusetts.

It should as from what ive heard GW2 will be free to play online, WoW is too boring and getting too easy. 90% of the population on there are kids now anyway and they are still loosing players. down to 6mil accounts now and decreasing. No wonder with their half assed expansions they actualy expect people to pay for.

I am not sure if Guild Wars 2 will be able to dethrone WoW. I believe that the closest MMO to it is LotRO. Lets face it, all MMOs do end up getting quite boring after a while. The one that took me the longest to get bored with was FFXI, but it was mainly the community on there that made that game so much more enjoyable. Not the endless people paying to play WoW and sitting in a town spamming bs on trade endlessly.

Guild Wars 2 will not beat WoW. There are far too many people playing the game for it to be knocked out that easily by a title that already failed to knock it out. End game content is usually the deciding factor for if a game can make it to the top or not since that is where people will spend majority of their time. Sure you can level more characters, but eventually you will have to play in the end game if you wish to continue. WoW has consistently brought out enough end game content to keep players entertained. Most new MMOs can't get together enough quality content to keep their player base there, they may have an initial spike of subscribers, but it won't last more than a few months and then people will go straight back to what they know which is WoW. I think one of the more recent "WoW killers" would have been Aion, which had absolutely no end game content. Aion's player base went down to not very much within 3-4 months after launch. The only game I know of on the horizon that seems that it may have a chance would be Star Wars: The Old Republic. If the people at Star Wars can make a successful end game then I think they would have a shot at taking a run at WoW, I wouldn't say kill it though.

WoW will never die and I don't believe it will ever be 2nd over anything...
(people said, Aion would, Lord of the Rings would, Warhammer would) but none can beat the popularity and charm of wow.

There wount be a single game that will dethrone wow, games will just take small groups of people away from the game gradually losing popularity. Right now WoW doesn't provide much challenge to the Hard Core gamer, and many of them have left for other games.

This.
I think the only thing that will finally kill WoW is WoW itself. It's natural that players who've been playing it for several years would be bored of it now (as they should be), but the amounts of people still playing it avidly are staggering. People stick to what they know. Many of them will probably only leave WoW after they've exhausted everything in it that interested them, not because some new MMO steps onto the scene.

Every time a new good MMO comes out ppl expect it to beat WoW, but that's kind of impossible cause ur talking about 11 million members :S
GW2 is good , but it has it's own fans and WoW has it's own fans.
WoW lost 500 subscribers a few months ago , but that's normal cause there is nothing to do now ingame except wait for the expansion.
I also agree 100% with Likanchu.
