Someone above said the same words I did to my friends: Nothing will kill WoW, except WoW itself.

With every update, and with every expansion, WoW is getting less and less fun. The game mechanics are still the same as they were in 2005, and the "new" models Blizzard keeps releasing are just remakes of older models.

There's tons of replayability with its ten classes and two factions, PVE and PVP, but as a player who's killed every boss except Heroic 25-man Lich King, Arena'd to 2300 rating, and played both sides, I don't think I'll be seeing another expansion.

I doubt anything could "dethrone" world of warcraft, its player base is very large and entrenched. I liked guildwars except i wished that the level cap would have been higher because once you hit level 20 in guildwars there really wasn't that much to do in the late game i found. Of course thats just my opinion.

Guild Wars has never been an MMORPG, just a co-op RPG with a lobby, and Guild Wars 2 won't change that fact. Besides, Cataclysm is coming out before Guild Wars 2 does, so I highly doubt it.

When people realize that you have to pay once really(the initial payment of the game) for GW is way better than throwing away your money for x amount of months, seeing how people play for years, thing of all the money that was thrown into that rat hole.

People are too lazy to grind (PEOPLE ARE JUST LAZY~ PERIOD)

WoW is a non-grind game so expect a lot of people to play it.

Aion failed as a pvp game - thought it would be a WoW killer but NCsoft ruined the potential of the game.

as for others, I don't know...

I don't really care if WoW stays on top or a new MMORPG has really "stomped" WoW, because really~ would you like kids to play in the same game as you play in? I'd like them to stay at WoW till they get bored at it "or learn how to play a game" and go to another one.

TERA online is being made by a new company (not a fucking NCsoft game thank god). FF14 is coming out too. TERA is a PVP/PVE game, and FF14 is more focused on PVE. Both games have potential nonetheless has the capabilities of showing what a 2010 game should look like.

I haven't really tried guild wars so I cannot make a comment on that game. Based on what I heard, pvp wise is balanced and there's no focus on pve (meaning, after you max level up, it's all pvp and lvl caps on 20 only.

This is not gunna happen for sure. They also thought when Warhammer came out, WoW would die a little, they also thought this would happen when Aion came out. It did not happen, maybe for a few weeks, but then players that left WoW for those games came back (in my experience). I don't think it's gunna happen with GW2 either.

an mmorpg won't die if they keep patching and patching and expanding it. Though some players would probably give up on paying on bullshit expansions and that's where the fun stops.

i personally like GW more than WoW, for too many reasons.
and the difference between the games is vast. so it will not replace WoW but it will give another interesting experience of MMO. GW already brought up many unique features into the genre and ArenaNET (gw makers) will try to bring up more creative ideas and ways to experience a game. So my hope for GW 2 is that it will continue the GW1 "being different than 99% of other MMOs".

Doubtful with Cataclysm just on the horizon, but I'll definitely be playing GW2 over that.

There are always game that come out and fans saying that it will "De-throne WoW". At first I thought "maybe", but after seeing them all flop and fail, I don't believe any of these claims anymore.

Who thinks Guild Wars 2 will replace World of Warcraft. Tell us why you think it will or will not.

I think the game has a good chance of replacing World of Warcraft, mainly because a lot of people who play World of Warcraft are getting sick of it becuase paladins are overpowered, and blizzard is nerfing tons of skills. Also Guild Wars was Arenanet's first game, and a pretty good one for a new company considering they do not have that many staff. So considering these facts Guild Wars 2 I believe Guild Wars 2 is going to be a great game, and has a good chance of replacing World Of Warcraft.

Also if a mod sees this can you please add a pole since I do not have the powers to do so. If you can add a poll just make the poll the topic title, and for answers yes, and no.

And paladins overpowered? You've obviously haven't played WoW in some time.

If anything, Activism has a better chance at killing WoW than Guild Wars.

there will be no way that guildwars2 will replace WoW, in reality there won't be every much changes from guild wars to guild wars 2, n if that is the case then that means that guildwars2 will continue to miss a aspect that WoW has, the fact that the PvE content isn't really something that can be done and forgotten since you beat the PvE section of the game. WoW in PvE u'll require gear (weapons n armor for those that are unfamiliar) from previous dungeon and raids to show to others that u r ready for the next step up in the raid tiers and stuff. meaning a vast amount of WoW gamers spend most of their time simply trying to obtain gear that has low drop rates in those raids simply so they can join in on the next higher lvl 1

plus even if that isn't the case, with the amount of ppl playing WoW, i doubt with that many ppl WoW will fall besides all games classes have times where they r overpowered and then get nerfed, similarity how the Death Knights used to be overpowered but now aren't as strong as they used to be

This topic makes me lol, both games bring things to the table and, no wow will not die when a new game is released, even everquest is still online even after god knows how many years. the problem is that companies build thier game to have as many subscribers as WoW before they they launch. WoW succeded becuase of several factors including the rise of social networking, and becuase of this it is not going to be stamped out quickly. all that will happen to wow is that people will slowly get bored and go to other games. ima pre order guildwars 2 cuase i love guildwars and its expansions

The thing that makes WoW popular with kids is how easy it is. I play EVE Online and am glad its too complicated for most kids, keeps a more mature player base which in turn makes the game more fun.

Actually, if you're running heroic ICC & the like, those sorts of achievements are simply child's play. Likewise, when it comes to playing, it actually does take a bit of skill to bring the full potential out of your class/spec. I think like any new MMO, players will give it a shot and yes, some may leave. But the vast majority of people will stay because they don't want the weeks upon weeks they invested in multiple characters going away. I myself will probably give it a test run and see if I can stand to play it. Never could get into Guild Wars, so we'll see if the second iteration brings more fun to the table.
