This seems like a fan rant but I will try to keep any complaining down to a minimum. This is somewhat of a concern for me while I'm reading Fairy Tail. The current arc Hiro Mashima is writing and drawing has Natsu, Wendy, Lucy, Gray, Erza, Happy, Charle, and Gazille in a world opposite of theres, where magic is a finite resource and the world is siphoning magic from Earthland(where Fairy Tail is set in). The problem I have with this arc, is that the parallel world concept was poorly explained and poorly executed. We had Mystogan tell Wendy he's from another world and Charle tells them the rest without going into any further detailing other than everything is opposite from Earthland. This is what my topic is about.

In Anime and Manga, the idea of parallel worlds or a "multi-verse" is rarely used, and if they are, most are able to pull it off with a good degree. The best example of an anime and manga doing this idea justice was Full Metal Alchemist. The gave slight hints and subtle clues that the world the Elric brothers live in is another world. They establish that our world and theirs are linked by the gateway. We know that the concept of equivalent exchange is prominent even with the gateway. The Alchemists power comes from our world when people die, it enters their world as energy. Now the funny thing is that in America comic books, which I read, the parallel world concept works just fine. They are used properly and are established much better by setting it up through issue to issue. In Anime and Manga's since they are set apart by having one person doing the story instead of having many different artists and writers doing them. I do know Noein has done this concept before and I liked it, very interesting and a cool way they did it.

I know it seems like a paradox, liking the concept in one but not the other. I just find it hard to grasp when a manga does it by rushing it. I love Mashima and Fairy Tail, but this arc was poorly executed at first but I'm getting into it better. Maybe when its in the anime I might be less annoyed. I look forward to see where it's gonna go afterwards. So all I want to sum up with this, is if anyone who does a parallel world idea better establish it and not rush it. Bye for now

When I read "Parallel Worlds", the first thing comes to my mind is Hitman Reborn...

Reborn did it really well. It did remind my the multiverse, where every world has a different outcome, except Byakuran changed them all for his own gains. As I said, not all do it but when they do it better be done well and not rushed

bleach doesn't because a parallel world must have the same people in it but have some differing qualities. Hueco Mundo and Soul Society are exempt from this
