In imo, I think Shylock is a victim of a corrupt society that mistreated the Jews but also a villain who preyed on the innocent who did nothing wrong.

My verdict is he's both the victim and the villain.

That's what mentioned under the topic title, so basically you are kinda asking us to help you with your work. as for an answer, I never read it, so maybe Enotes or Google would be appropriate to look into instead of asking people here.

i think he is the villain here is why .

He chose to pray on a innocent person just like the society chose to pray on the innocent people. he is no better than the society . He uses society to justify his bad ways .

Not only is he the villain he is also weak and can't take responsibility for his actions.
