Okay i don't know if you think this is a stupid question, but im still kinda curious...

I've been a total hardcore fan of anime and manga for like about 3 years now... and i just thought. Why?

Why do we like manga and anime so much instead of just continuing on with our own lives or at least watching live action dramas more often?

Other than just saying "manga/anime is cool" why do you think we really like anime and manga? What makes it so great to you or friends around you..? And why do some of us practically make it a big part of our lives?

OH YEAH!

btw im also asking this question because there aren't many anime/manga lovers in my school.. and people are constantly asking me

"Why the hell do you like anime, its so gay" stuff like that... and i honestly never know how to answer them other than saying "Cuz it's cool/cute" etc... so yeaa.... don't answer this question of mine by saying its cool or cute! I want to know your opinion on WHY is it so cool or cute to us? and the history and culture of it as well perhaps. Anything to educate me further

but couldn't we apply it into real life or watch a drama that has interesting storyline instead? what makes manga and anime so special to us?

Some anime shows/manga are really interesting or funny. If it catches my interest, I'll like it regardless.
I do like anime a bit better than American animation too.

so is it the art? or the kind of humor the japanese have?

I do like how they illustrate the characters & the anime world. comedic views are sometimes inappropriate & most times it's humorous.
I still appreciate American cartoons, I just like anime more cause it's a different approach within animation.

To watch or read about an interesting or appealing story that draws the viewer into their show case of problems that forces the protagonist to overcome or accomplish a goal in a dramatic, comedy, action, etc.... Its that fact that makes anime/manga viewers get attached and craving for more.

It entertains me in a cartoon-wise way American shows could not.
Might be the slight romance, comedy, horror, drama or sci-fi genre stories. :\

HAHA so true~

i think i'm attracted to anime and such just cause it is so unrealistically practical. not only the funny japanese culture differences that are humorous but also how such ordinary characters are always brought to life and made to seem so realistically plausible. i mean, bleach for example is never gonna happen but its fun to imagine a secret world where kimono wearing shinigami are hangin around fightin evil. its simply entertaining. american anime and dramas and such can be entertaining too, but for me american animation is either too unrealistic [like all those corny disney things] or its just dumb slap comedy. dramas and such are entertaining but seeing actual people go through all the drama and such brings back a sense of reality that just isn't as appealing. maybe cause its too dramatic or smth but to me live action dramas and such are good, but not as good as anime cause they can't add to the level of unrealisticness we desire from these shows.

watch anime for the chance to see something out of the ordinary happen to the ordinary i suppose. distracts me from my own boring life

hope that answers ur question.

I totally agree with you here. I love both American cartoons and anime. Anime is unrealistic but it's so cool
