add a bitchy jealous girl at some point, add some confusion, solve it, etc.
Not all shoujo could be that bad, but that's just some that I seem to find constantly - hence why I prefer Josei.

what i hated the most in shoujo manga/anime storyline:
- the girl falls in love with the superhandsome guy who is also has the best grade in school, and also good in sports, and also super rich... and bla bla bla, .. -_-"
-and this ordinary girl who gets attention from superhandsomeprince of the school was bullied by the other female fans. they throw up garbage on her, or throw her books/bags in the ponds, etc. oh how i hate jealousy-bully storyline
-most of them have this annoying type of main male char (M*YU SH*NJO type male character, u know), who force to kiss the girl... *and some even rape the girl, and the girl somehow fall in love with them (ARGHHH)
- the scene where the girl walking home at night, and some bad guys show up, and then the male character come to rescue. i think i saw this hundreds of time already >.<
