Preface:

I had no clue Zeta Gundam was only available for a certain period of time. Its hard to plow through 54 episodes of several series in a given period of time. I'm not some creepy waste of space otaku with all the time in the world to watch TV and get fat. Tell me now if people who hold down a job, a relationship, an extended social life with many hobbies, and continuing higher education are not your target customers.

I opt to pay for crunchyroll in place of cable TV because I don't give a damn about most of American TV and what I do care about I can watch on SciFi and Hulu in the same crappy, choppy quality I can find here. (I don't care if the video feed on naruo is 720p; put an old [DB] release next to the CR equivalent and cry at the difference in quality.)

----------

Does posting video for a limited period of time on a fledgling service like crunchyroll hurt the site and the distributor? Hell, I'm tempted to buy Zeta, Unicorn, et al and upload the files to the net out of spite. The only edge CR has over the competition is that there is NO legal competition.

To date I've downloaded several series illegally for lacking or quality or being removed before I could finish them:

AirMaster: The second to last episode had an audio sync issue for months; The audio quality on the ancient Divx from Kick Ass Anime played better on my 7.1 speaker setup while the audio from CR hissed and shrilled throughout every episode.

Captain Harlock: The stream kept cutting out halfway through watching the last 10 episodes.

Naruto: The OP and Ending were not subbed for months.

Last Exile: My ancient compressed DVD rip from Exiled Destiny played better on my new 1080i HD Sony.

Zeta Gundam: Just found it at 1.5 mb a second at 720p, 5.1 digital, hard corded subs and a tight little avi container..

Derp de diddly derp... I'm done raging now that I've made my point and found the series "elsewhere" elsewhere.

I'll let my fresh food get cold while I add my input.

Certainly I have to agree with your every point, including the venting. I had been watching about 1-2 episodes of Gundam every day since it came out, Zeta was released sometime during that period, then I conveniently moved on to Zeta when I finished Gundam, and continued my pattern of 1-2 episodes every day (minus a few days of 0 as CR has other good shows to watch). Now isn't that a reasonable speed? Yet what has happened here conflicts with reason. That combined with the lack of any clear and accurate warning undeniably earns the title of unfair!

I have intentionally been a blind fan of Crunchyroll this whole time. I have not felt from the start that CR offers any just reward for premium membership. "See it a week before everyone else" means nothing at all to me, as I'll be watching the show at the same weekly rate either way. I pay CR to pay the creators, so they haven't had any need for any specific reward for me.

I like the people making anime, but I cannot reimburse the creators as DVDs and such are unaffordable for the rate at which I watch anime, plus I usually watch it all only once making DVDs yet less justified. I do not relish in obtaining fansubs for free, as I worry of the state of those who bring me such happiness. In compliance with my honor, every fansub I watched I tracked as a debt I needed to pay off, when the day comes that I find how to get money to the creators in a reasonable manner. CR answered my problems, and I swore loyalty immediately. CR has been a convenient means for paying off my debts.

CR had quite a peak, but its light has already become so dim. Even through all the times of CR not getting all the good shows, I had faith that there were enough people like me to keep CR on their feet. But the first big blow to my loyalty was when a lot of old shows suddenly got removed in a large wave (http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-616042/concern-regarding-several-removed-shows/). This event is of the same nature.

With the primary exception of Bleach, I have not watched fansubs ever since CR started. But what do you expect to happen with me more than halfway through a show and it gets removed? And not just any show, but a classic? And not just any classic, but Gundam? That sure is a lot of pressure. Oh, how sad I am. I must betray my honor, I must betray Crunchyroll, I must betray the creators. Oh so painfully sad is my state.

I'll give in to the reality of CRs state, but I'll still stick with my optimisms and delusions. It can still save me from much betrayal while it lasts. I'll maintain my membership, but sad am I to see the revived allure of fansubs.

I'll assume now that all shows here are available only on a temporary contracted basis. Since CR may lack the funds to hold them all here, I guess I must shift my priority away from all current shows and finish all catalog shows. I guess that'll lead to a subsequent battle of watching the presently current shows before they too vanish. Then I suppose it'll eventually reach a point of me increasing my debts again.

I suppose I'll copy this to another location, as the administration needs to reflect on this more than they have.

I agree with both of you.
For me, I was watching to see if I wanted to buy the series in the Anime Collections edition that is being sold. I had seen clips of it and from those clips I didn't really want to buy or watch it. However after watching about 7 episodes or so. I was heavily weighing buying it as the story became better. Now I don't know though since I can't watch anymore episodes here to figure out if it is worth buying or not.
I was already angry with the release of Unicorn only on BD and now this. I love Gundam.
I think as my case shows this does hurt the distibutors and CR. The only reason I was even back on CR was to watch Zeta. I haven't really watched anything on here since Naruto went to filler crap and even then I was watching only 1 or 2 episodes a month. They keep pushing Anime Membership and I feel like why should I bother if you don't carry the anime I like. More Gundam all the time would seriously make me consider it.

Oh well I hope AnimeChannel on youtube will allow me to watch at least a season of Zeta so I can decide if I want to own it or not.

I tried to make Premium Member aware of this by posting about it in the CR Premium Members closed group.
http://www.crunchyroll.com/group/CR_Premium_Members/forum?extra_param=604710&page=0

All the necessary information is there but basically these Gundam shows were only made available here to promote Gundam Unicorn. If we could have them here for longer, we would.

We have a closed group? I'm sorry but that's a useless place to post information. If Squishyroll (as my law buddies call this site) can remind us every fricken time to watch an episode that its for premium members only (which we already are) then why the $*#$ can't you change the message or add to the message to warn us every single time we watch an episode that it will be taken down on such and such date?

Seriously, excuses are not what we want to hear. We understand this is a work in progress but unless we hear what progress has been made to address simple issues like properly warning subscribers (especially paying subscribers) of an expiration date we will only get more frustrated with this service.

I guess the staff may not be able to get them back but it would have been nice to have a better indication as to when the show would no longer be available.

I finished MSG right around the time Zeta went up and moved on to Zeta but I barely got in 5 episodes before it was taken down. It seemed like it wasn't on very long at all.

To avoid this happening again I plowed through SEED Destiny in a week though I could have paced that a bit slower since it's up until the end of the month at least on YouTube.

I really would like to see Zeta and I few options other than to buy it online so if CR could get it back even for a another limited time it'd be much appreciated.

Same thing here... I finish the First Gundam in a moderate pace because life duties... When I just started Zeta... What's going on??? Where are the videos??? It is pretty annoying when you are a fan of anime, trying to promote the correct way of watching the shows legally and supporting all the anime business, and all of a sudden the series you are watching just vanish and you are supposed to buy the DVD's in order to continue/finish it. If you keep year after year your membership come on, at least try to keep these series for us MEMBERS of Crunchy and that pays for it. I understand that money always speaks louder, and also you are not able to webcast all the shows from Japanese TV, but the ones you got try to keep for your clients.
Anyways, you guys are treading a way that never was walked before, and problems, mistakes and lack of understanding from us will happen, but try to respect YOUR CLIENTS a little more giving us at least a heads up that some series are for just a time, for example showing them at the Anime Menu in a different option.
Well I am still a supporter and thank you for your hard work...

I agree it would have been cooler if Bandai allowed you to keep the series for premium members only after April 22, but oh well at least you got to keep Wing I've always wanted to watch the rest of the series.
