Hmm wow kinda rare seeing this kind of topic. But Archery does help improve a lot... such as vision, focus, and your accuracy. Not really having seen archery much.

I'm interested in it. Especially the idea of using wooden bows and making your own bow from a raw materials.

A friend gave me some books on how to make bows and even the arrows and etc.

I totally love archery. I am only a novice at it though, as I got into it during my senior year of college. I bought myself a cheap recurve bow (for easy storage) for about a hundred. I'd recommend googling Lancaster archery. They have a decent selection at a decent price.

I used a longbow once. I could only pull around 40-50 pounds if I remember right. That was ages ago though. Go for a compound bow. You won't wiggle your arms as your trying to aim because of the strain holding it back. The compound bow holds it for you when you pull back so you can aim with ease.

It's hard to find archery ranges though. I guess you can just use a tree. People don't like it when you use it at parks. Bastards.

I tried it once. Had no control whatsoever, I killed a bird ACCIDENTALLY! And it was like, 10 meters away from the target point. And so, I tried target shooting instead. What can I say? I own a licensed gun now!

Haha yeah, compounds would be easier to draw and hold, but....they look so ugly. I always thought of archery as an elegant sport. Haha, yeah I don't know why someone would get freaked out by a sharp arrow flying by with the horribly inaccurate aim of a novice...(at least for me) Oh yeah...ever shot an arrow straight up? Uh yeah...stupid.

Anyways, bow length and draw weight are two very important things to consider...also what handed you might be.
