I would say that they are half half the reason is that if you want to play and old system that the company dose not make money than that is fine with me(ex: is the sega or the N64) and you want to play some classic games that you cant find even if you tried but the wrong part is the new emulators like the DS why not just buy the game don't steal it so that your favorite game company dose not go broke and can keep making you more games to enjoy.

I heard people put viruses on emulators, so I've been cautious to use any. I guess it's good because you get to play your favorite games & etc. but the downfall are those malware risks & whatnot.

somewhat true but I have the home-brew channel, where I hacked my wii using a program called banner bomb to play all of my old games agian via emulators on the wii. I do not really see a problem in it due to fact all the games that I do play are only the ones that I own and systems as well. It's just a marketing ploy in order to make people by the same thing over and over again and I am not that stupid <_<. On legal matters It really depends on how you want to interpret the law, I do find a problem with downloading new games and pirating them but the older ones that harder to come by are another story.

Good. I use them to play japanese games that would probably be expensive to import. Only old ones though. SNES era and before.

Pro - You can catch up all the games that has been previously phased out or games that are HARD to find.

Con - Though luck for the game creators and publishers who can't profit from this. Or at least most of the profit are lost anyway.

While I'll admit to using an emulator on my PC to play Seiken Densetsu 3 (as it's pretty much the only way to play if don't speak Japanese or don't have a Super Famicom) I really don't recommend them, especially when it comes to Playstation games. My exprience with emulators has been mostly been that they're glitchy at best and finding a decent one is difficult, which is a factor yet to be mentioned in this thread. I've seen someone attempt to play Silent Hill 4 on an emulator (don't ask me why they didn't just get a cracked PC version) and it was shockingly glitchy. They could easily escape enemies because they would just start attacking the wall instead of them and things that were supposed to chanse them wound up running away more often than not. Just wasn't a pleasant gaming experience.

i got into emulators around the GBA emulator in early 2000s ...now ive got the NDS emulator and half the games(meaning anything late 2009 and above) dont seem to work on it and i wish it would go back to the easier days ...have to go through a billion forums just to get past black screens and even then some dont seem to work....

dont get me wrong im all for emulators, for ppl like me who are to poor to offord catching a $12 boat ride to another island just so that i can take the bus over to the mall where i pay for an overpriced final fantasy 13 game for $74 i know it can be hard everytime something new comes out.

i use emulators for gba and gb games on my psp, and even though it burns a huge hole in my pocket every couple weeks or so, i still support gaming companies for the heck of it. but for those others like me who feel that gaming shouldnt effect you financially, amen to you brothers.
