Help with Video Playback Problems
|

I am not sure what the problem is. I realize the quoted post is a month old, but just in case it's useful information, I actually noticed the same thing. I was having a great experience until I tried the premium trial (thus, the premium trial). I thought it was just a coincidence that I started seeing trouble at that moment, but perhaps not. Do free customers use a different CDN? Edit: I somehow quoted the wrong post. Weird. |

So, after having read a lot of other posts during downtime and experimented with their thoughts, I find the following:
- There's no point in waiting for a connection timeout, at least on Roku. If the stream won't start in 10-12 seconds, it won't ever start. I haven't seen it happen, anyway, and that's across hundreds of retries. - Numerous tries will eventually yield a connection that works as if nothing was ever wrong in the first place. - If the bar moves past the 10% point where it starts at, it pretty much always fills and the show starts. - The next episode requires the same routine, so the good connection only persists during one playback. Don't exit to the menu by accident! So I've been doing retries every 15 seconds when I can't get in and I can usually get something after 5-10 attempts. This is useful information for anyone in the same boat as I am, so I'm posting it for them to see, but I can't say I'm encouraged to make my trial permanent yet. 2-5 minutes of retry, wait, retry, wait per episode is pretty frustrating and paying for frustration always puts me in a foul mood. --- To be fair and to be positive for once, the whole thing is great in theory and even in the intended function. Crunchyroll is what needs to be done with this kind of material. There are a few rough edges, but other than this throughput issue, I really do like the service. However, I've been burned any number of times by tech I've loved and I'm pretty wary these days. History has taught me that being patient while issues are worked on is seldom productive, and it seems like these issues have been coming up (and re-appearing in some cases) on a regular basis with your service provider. I worry that your provider is not diligent, or maybe not very interested, in making sure their service is top notch. Basou, do you have confidence in your provider's ongoing troubleshooting? It's good that you acknowledge there's a problem, but the lack of any more information makes it difficult to estimate whether they will do well for you guys in the end, or just keep letting problems crop up and doing little about them if you don't make a bunch of noise. |

And after a few days of the same thing I might as well report, I'm back to getting nothing but the CRBSOD (Crunchyroll Blank Screen Of Death) from your NY server. It was fine for like 2 days but now we're back to doing this again.
C'mon guys... I just want to be able to watch the shows here when I want without having to keep clicking on "reload" for 15 minutes to catch a decent stream or having to pause the video to max the buffer out so I can get an uninterrupted stream that hopefully won't stall. Hell, I'd be happy with 480p if you could work that out for me. |

There is a problem with the Deadman Wonderland, the subtitles are blending in with the background and making it very hard to read. Is there someway we can get this fixed please...I feel like I am only reading half of the conversations they are saying lol....Either this or I should just learn Japanese LOL! =P

It's pretty stupid that I have to resort to using torrents when I pay for a premium service. |

The iPod Touch/iPhone Crunchyroll application skips part of the video at around 3-5 minutes in for every video I've watched so far since the new season.

I for one wish Crunchy roll would stop using Flash as a video player. It is fraught with unending problems. Please switch to java based players, Silver-light, QuickTime anything but flash. As a paid subscriber i find it intensely irritating not to have a playback option and to have to jump through hoop after to hoop to enjoy content i pay for. I am here to relax and enjoy the anime not be frustrated to the point i want to scream.
Alas like my many bug reports this will fall on deaf ears. never to be read or responded to. The only option is to find another source and cancel your subscriptions. |

Trying to watch Stein's Gate ep 3 and it pauses every few seconds. This has been a continual problem. Crunchyroll really needs to get their server/bandwidth in order if they want to keep me as a premium subscriber...

I didn't think the problem was so widespread until I read all these people's posts having the same problem as mine.
I know this is a problem on CR's server side because every machine I own has same problem with buffering and connecting to the videos. My Windows 7 PC, iPad app, my iMac all have problem with the video. I'm probably one of many who stop subscription to CR due to the same problem. I really have no idea what's going on, but I'll probably stop subscription if I don't see any improvement before my pay cycle ends. The way I see, it's easier to just go back to downloading anime through torrents than to read forum posts and go through all these nonsense. Thanks CR, it seemed promising while it lasted. EDIT: The video problem has been resolved somehow. But I am still upset that a large scale problem like this has been kept under dark for paying customers and than to have told we are "arguing" and "spamming" on this thread. If this was known problem to you, it should have been posted as a site wide announcement and apology. After almost two weeks of unusable services, we get not even a single word of explanation about it. This is a terrible customer service and an easy way to lose bulk of your paying customers. |

DUDES!! I've had to click reload 11 times to get Steins;Gate to play and 26 times to get Blue Exorcist to play. This is utterly ridiculous and I'm not enjoying anime at all since trying to watch anything has simply become an annoyance that's been going on for months now. You guys need to get this sorted out soon or start handing out refunds to people for the time remaining if they ask for it.
What's going on around here because you guys are seriously shooting yourself in the foot. |
