No matter what video I try to watch the video will play for about 30sec to 1 min then pause for about a min., then repeat unless I press the pause button while it is pausing then press the play button then it will immediately play again and not wait out its normal pause time. But it still does the play and pause routine through the whole movie. I liked Cruchyroll, but this is getting irritating enough that I’ll start looking for somewhere else to watch, if this doesn’t get fixed.

Do you have the same problem on another computer on the same internet connection? If not, that would mean the problem is with your computer, not Crunchyroll.

Yes! I was watching on my other computer as a "guest" and had no pauses, had commercials but no pauses. The moment I logged in it has the pauses again so it's not my computers it's the sites.

When logged in, what resolution do you watch at?

If you're watching at anything above SD, then you're not watching the same quality video as when you are a guest. This could be causing the video to pause.

CR is about the only website that I can't consistently stream video from. CR seriously has bandwidth issues. 1080p? Hit/miss. 720p? if the stars align. 480p? Nope. Of course each lower resolution gets better, but still stutters/can't keep up.

Latest attempt was papa kiki ep 9. Stutter/buffer city.

Core i7, 6GB, Nvidia GTX 460
Brighthouse Networks 20/2

I've already done ping tests and all that crap a few pages back. It's sad that I have to resort to 'other' means just to get what I've paid for.

Episode 5 of durarara won't play. I tried refresh, autoplay, nothing works. All other episodes work fine but that one.

Just tried it here, and no problem. Either they fixed it, or it is some weird problem with the CDN node for your area.

Have you tried it on another computer (or another device of the same type if not using a PC)?

Weird...It still won't play. But I will try it on my phone....Hey it works!! Thanks so much. I'll try this if it ever happens again. It's so weird how only Episode 5 won't load.

I'm thinking the cached copy at your local CDN node is corrupted. If CR has control over that, they may need to "flush" that copy from the cache, or if not, contact their CDN and have them do it.

The iPhone would be using a separate encode, which explains why it isn't affected.

I've been a member for a few years, and have always had hit/miss streaming issues. Some days it's fine, and everything plays (even 1080p) without an issue. Other days (such as today) it's just ridiculous, with 720p content stopping every so often. If I let it sit it seems to restart most of the time, other times I have to refresh the page and hope it catches up.

For the cost it's borderline acceptable, but with more 1080p content I'd like to play that more often, but I hesitate most days as I hate having the pauses in the middle of an episode.

Operating System (OS): Win7 Pro 64bit
Web Browser and version number you are using. Chrome 17
Version of Flash you are using. Flash 11.1.102
Processor Type. Core i5 2500k (stock speeds)
Processor Speed. 3.3ghz
Graphics Card Type. Nvidia 560 Ti
Amount or RAM. 16GB
Amount of free space on your C: or OS partition. Roughly 500GB

ISP: Shaw High-speed 20mbps Connection (but I only seem to get that to some places, half that is the most I usually hope for)

Sorry! Need to get the testing info updated.

With test 5.1 can you please use cp150757.edgefcs.net
Instead of crunchy.fcod.llnwd.net

That absolutely looks a lot worse, where is that hosted at?

NVM I see it's Shaw, no wonder it's so crappy. Even within their own network they're garbage. My company uses a Victoria based data center that uses them, it's horrendous.

Maybe if I switched to Telus, I'd get a better connection to a Shaw based data center?

Can you try changing your DNS via the following?
http://www.crunchyroll.com/help?topic=video#5.2

Let me know if that helps with playback.

I was already using OpenDNS with my router, it's not a DNS issue. The pings are direct to the server, and if I wait and flush DNS and re-ping I can sometimes get a different server, but still with spotty ping results. Below is a third different server (first two were Shaw, this one is Vzn in California), you can still see ping times up to 700ms in some cases, that's pretty bad.

Can you try your ISP's DNS or the Google DNS to see if there is a difference?

I wouldn't be so quick to assume that. I had the same setup (OpenDNS set on my router), and yet when I suddenly starting experiencing issues with CR streams early last year, changing it to Google DNS resolved them.

Frankly, I am still not convinced that it was specifically changing from OpenDNS (which is still in use for my other computers and devices), so much as simply changing to a different DNS that resolved the issue.
