I pay a yearly membership, but often it tells me a video is not available to me yet. Before I could log into the site manually then go back to the app, but this is not working now either.

And video stutter and lockup. Or the video and sound stop but the subtitles keep going. I know when speedtest sugests 2.5 and lower I will have issuses, but I even get them with 10mb + showing on speed test. And 2.5 mb should be fine for normal viewing of videos.

I am getting very tired of this.

I just tested the iPhone CrunchyRoll app on my iPod (3rd Gen), and it seems to be working fine. My internet connection isn't stellar (perhaps a little under 1MB/s), but it's still loading the video fast enough to stop from stuttering.

As far as availability of content is concerned, whatever is listed using the app is what you can watch.

If it helps, can you tell us what video it is you're having trouble with, if this exists for all videos (or most) - and if possible, what unit are you using to access Crunchyroll? Is it an iPod or iPhone, and which generation?

iPhone app is currently in the Alpha/Beta stage so it doesn't provide all of the functions that will be there for our first stable release. So currently, we can't provide access to the latest videos since the app isn't secure enough yet.

Last week I could watch the new eps. This week no luck.

Still no reply from anyone at crunchyroll. So much for faster response to paying customers.

I didn't reply to this thread since people already replied saying basically what I would have said.

To reiterate, the iPhone app is currently in the Alpha stage of development so it's not secure enough for us to provide instant access to simulcasts. Instead, we give access to those videos 24 hours after they appear on our site.

As for the video stutter/lockup, is this on the iPhone app or through the site? If you are watching it on your computer when this happens, it could be due to your computer not having enough resources to decode the video and audio. You should check your system processes to make sure no programs are hogging your CPU and memory resources.

If it happens on the iPhone app, please tell us which specific videos you experience the problem on and if it consistently cuts out at the same point.

With more information, we can look into this issue.

Not that I'm pointing fingers or accusing anyone... but I wonder if "jailbreaking" your iPhone/iPod affects streaming using the CR app in any way? Just wondering.

No Jailbreak here. It’s a company iphone.

But here is my ping test just after a freeze that it will not recover from.

I am going to have to refresh the page and scroll back up to that time to try and continue.. This happens all the time.

This is using Firefox 3.6.3 with the current flash from www.adobe.com windows XP SP3 32 bit, 4 gigs ram, 2x 8800 GT (512MB) cards.

This happens soo much I have almost given up on watching stuff.

I can switch to my windows 7 system and it does not lock up as often but still does all over the place.

The iphone issues, I could watch NEW stuff with a star beside it for a few weeks, now nothing at all with a star, same day or 5 days later.. So I guess it was CHANGED from launch to now.

It would be nice to know the product is alpha, I do not remember reading that anywhere on the app store. (not that I paid for it since it is free)

But if it is basically just a test product it would have been nice to know it sooner. (instead of wasting my this much time getting very frustrated)

I can only guess with the web site from reading other forums, that crunchyroll changed things to secure the shows more, and in the process messed something up. But does not want to go back to how it was, but does not seem to know how to fix what has happened.

I have not replied for this long, because I have given up on any real solutions being provided, or anyone owning up to there being an issue.


The problem has been here for months and months. If there is a fix that works I would love a link.

As for no support replying because they felt non support members covered it, not really good enough either. If you read a lot of forums, you get some good and a whole lot of BAD when it does not come from actual support/forum admins. So it is not possible to know if what someone tells you is correct or not.

A short reply saying what you said (or even shorter) is much better.

Thank you for explaining some of the problems and issues, I really hope that some day soon this gets sorted out.


As for what shows locked up and where, I watched tons of different ones, and some times they lock up that day (that hour) over and over at the same place, other times random spots all over.

2.5MB and up connections from speed test. (though I know if I am as low as 2.5 on the iphone i can expect a lot of lock ups.

But even with i am maxing my wireless at 11MB it still locks up.

My average speed is over 15MB on my main computers (wired) i did a trace one time as you listed in a post some time back, i think it was only 3 or 4 hops out (i was stunned) If you want I can try and post more ping and speed tests when stuff locks up, but it really does not seem to be the issue.

Let me know if you want more info more often.

You should try installing Adobe Flash 10.1 RC and install the latest drivers for you Graphics Card. Flash 10.1 makes things run much smoother.

Also, next time this happens, please provide ping/tracert results since your network connection speed and stability seems fine but you may be connecting to a server that is too far from you.

I have a similar problem except I'm not a premium member. The fact is that most of the time I can't ven watch regular videos that have been out for ages. When I go on my iPhone app for crunchyroll and click play, my screen just freezes each time and I get kicked out of the all. It works sometimes but most of the time it doesn't work. It works perfectly fine on my computer but I can't watch a single video when the app acts up.

Jailbreaking has no effect on streaming anything. All it does is release your system up from the bonds of Apple, or whatever other manufacturer (ie. Sony).
