I'm tired of my brothers and sisters making fun of my j-pop and k-pop music! "They have horrible english." "They're so fake." It makes me angry.

IF THIS IS A DUPLICATE, PLEASE DELETE IT!!

My family doesn't understand it. My grandmother calls it "stupid."
I just tell them that they live in a cultural void and are unable to go outside their boundaries for fear of being unaccepted.
Knock them out with intelligence, either that or big words they cannot understand.

Nope.

ETA: I listen to classic rock for the most part, so it's a little hard to make fun of in the first place.

Back in Middle School, I was the ONLY ONE listening to Asian music. I was surrounded by people who loved American, French or Western music, more generally. First of all, I was pretty shy, and I didn't like to show my differences. But, time passing by, I started being more original, wearing funny and colorful clothes ! I wore two different shoes, flashy socks, plenty of accessories like a Decora. I came to school like that, because I thought : "Being criticized is not a problem. But having regrets is a serious one." I was happy, because I thought I wasn't like other people. I was different. And I began to be proud of listening to Asian music. Everyone, except my real friends and my family, began to criticize me. They made fun of me. It could've been harmful. But, in the end, it wasn't. I began to find it funny.

I remember once, I made the whole class listen to Yamapi's "Gomen ne Juliet". And EVERYONE began to mock me, and to say : "It's boysband alike ! It SUCKS! It's not rap or rock, so it SUCKS !"
A boy even asked me : "Why do you listen to ASIAN boysband ? You could listen to backstreet boys instead !" ...
And, just after he told me this, I realized : "Gosh, people are desperately narrow-minded.".

My family never criticized me about my tastes, my mother is a very open-minded and original person. My father is wise. And my brothers accept me so. There's nothing to be ashamed of. I mean .... It's just music. Asian, American, rock, pop, boysbands, jazz, funk ... Everything is just music. The main part of it is the feeling it can bring to the one who listens to that kind of music.

I listen to everything right now. Bollywood music, Asian music, American music. Rap, rock, pop, funk, enka... I listen to EVERYTHING, because I learnt that closing our mind is the WORST thing we can do. =)

Moreover, the funniest part of my little story is that ... I'm not original anymore. My high school is filled with Asian people. There's not even one person in my high school who does not know about DBSK, Super Junior, NewS, or BigBang ! xD

Yup i'm being teased with my music taste. I'm the only one in the whole school and even neighbourhood that listens to bands like DBSK, Super junior , SHINee and bigbang. I didn't tell anyone of my taste of music but when we had a free period we all went on the computers to just internet. I was looking at video-clips of DBSK and a classmate was walking passed me. She must have seen the screen cause she said "Who are those ugle woman?" O_______________O SERIOUSLY!?! I was pissed off but didnt want to get in trouble so i just told her that it was DONG BANG SHIN KI and that they were hotter and more talented than she would ever be in her life. She just looked at me like i was weird and walked away.

It's going ok now. I think people are accepting my music if i listen to it quietly on the ipod and no one can here it -_-. Seriously i have to listen to those fake g-unit and eminem and lady gaga shit all day just because others don't want to hear asian music. So every now and then i just plug out my earphones from my ipod and just blast the songs for everyone to hear. I don't care anymore.

Still , i'm happy that my friends accept my music. even though they don't like it at all they don't go around saying bad things about them. They were even shocked when i told them that DBSK was maybe splitting!

so...screw the world and listen to what YOU want to listen too!

Most people don't know what it is and find it intriguing =]
People misconceive me to listen to hardcore rock.
Only to find that i heavily listen to K-POP!
And there is where i spread the kpop love ^.^

I don't have a music player or phone of any kind, so when I'm describing the music (J-pop and non vocals / VGM), they ussually wave me off rather than make fun of it or appreciate it, but when they're are at my house and they let me put up Youtube, oh boy did I get some people hooked doing that. I ussually start them off with Eastern music with no vocals (Touhou in particular), it just draws them in.

It ussually works, because a song with no vocals is one everyone can understand . The next song is similar, with an introduction of similar feel, but then there is the vocals. If they haven't given me an evil eye up to that point, I'm not nervous at all. One time a person did give me a look and I said, as calmly as I could. "You can't control peoples taste, you know, they have to make a concious decision on it. I'm just introducing it to your vision, since you didn't go looking for it. Do you like it?" That guy looked at me for a good minute while the song was blazing, and he finally smiled. He told me he respected my tastes, but did not like it. What he said after that, he said...

"Thanks for showing me that America is not the only music nation in the world."

That shot my respect for him way up, and since then we've talked in person and he showed me some songs he found from Europe that he liked.

There's a lot of music out there, I just wish that respect for tastes of others was more commonplace among other people my age.
