It doesn't matter what others people think, as long as you enjoy it.

I got past the idea of guilty pleasures years ago. If people don't like what I listen to, that's too bad. I listen to a lot of music and the chances are I probably listen to something you enjoy anyway.

In my circle of friends we make fun of our differing tastes in music often. Usually they listen to a genre exclusively; few friends are into EDM and synthpop, and one guy I know only listens to Jay Z and nothing else. I get flack for my taste too, namely my liking of indie pop (think Sky Ferreira, Grimes, Vampire Weekend) and obsession with Kanye.

With people I don't really know, I feel like the way you come across when you tell them what you listen to makes all the difference to their response. From my experience nobody has really made fun of my taste. It's a great personal topic of conversation that can tell a lot about a person.

A little, but it's not too severe. I really love K-Pop, It's obvious as soon as you walk into my room. The criticism is mainly from my family, but in general they just ignore it, unless the topic comes up. I'm Half-Filipino on my mom's side, and I sense that my mom isn't particularly fond of Korean people (completely wrong, I know...). And for some reason she just tries to find excuses to criticize it. "But you don't even understand what they're saying!" True. But at the same time, she wants me to listen to songs in Tagalog even though I don't really understand that. There's a lot of hypocrisy with it, but I've learned to ignore it. It has to do more with her deep-seated issues than with me listening to K-Pop. I'm listening to K-Pop for the same reason I listen to English music: I just like the way it sounds. That's it.
