diannathinks; mothers

“Geez Mom. You’re embarrassing me in front of my crew.” Dianna protested, trying to escape from her mother’s grip. Her mother rolled her eyes and continued to scrub some dirt off her daughter’s face.

“So, you will come back soon right?” her mother asked when she finally released her child.

Dianna nodded, “Yes Mother. You won’t even notice me gone.”

Mother just raised an eyebrow, “You’ll take care of my girl, right?” She asked the rest of the crew. They had stopped at Port Royal, where her mother lived, for the captain’s eighteenth birthday. Something they tried to do every year.

It had been eight years since Dianna took over her father’s ship. Port Royal had gone through some drastic changes, making it seem more...welcoming. But everyone knew, once night fell, it went back to its former self. Drunken pirates roamed the streets, brawls in and out of the pubs and inns, illegal acts of every kind could be found at the Port.

“You take care of yourself and I’ll be just peachy Mom.” Dianna said smiling brightly. Giving her mother one last hug, she turned to the rest of the crew.

“You guys ready to leave port?” She asked, “Stocked up on food supplies?” She directed this to their cook.

“What about you Dahlia? Got everything?”

Dianna pulled some paper out of her pocket and passed it to Virtue, “Here you go! Mozart! I told you I had those music sheets.”

<enter Virtue>

Virtue stood with the rest of the crew as the Captain said her farewells.
It was nice to visit Port Royal once in a while. Virtue just couldn't believe that they
had actually made it in time for the Captain's birthday.

Dianna pulled some paper out of her pocket and
passed it to Virtue, “Here you go! Mozart! I told you I had those music sheets.”

He almost didn't catch the sheets. "Mozart? You comparing me to that old man?"
He was amazed as he looked over the pieces of paper. "Ah! I don't have these in my collection!
Thanks Cap'n." He saluted before going back to obsessing over the sheets.

patience is a gift

Zinc waited patiently as Captain Aella's mother said goodbye. You could never know how long it would take for one's parents to do this; even if they had said it before. Dione was being incredibly impatient on the other hand; she was beating her foot against the decaying wood of the port and tapping her finger against his shoulder. She had also taken Zinc's jacket and had rested it on her own shoulder due to the cold winter weather.

She asked, “Stocked up on food supplies?”

Zinc nodded. He had purchased enough food to last them until they reached their next stop. He had also bought a storage system that would allow the perishables to stay good considerably longer and new utensils. Her question reminded him of one he had nearly forgotten. Zinc went over to Dahlia and lightly tapped her shoulder. When she was looking at him Dione asked, "Where is the new food, utensils and storage system being put on the ship?" He knew he would have to carry them down to the kitchen because it was in a unusual spot. Hopefully they would be placed close by.

Dahlia&Co.

“You’ll take care of my girl, right?” She asked the rest of the crew.

Dahlia laughed and said, "Yes, Ma'am."

She watched as the Captain continuously tried to reassure her mother, feeling a bit envious. Back at home, Dahlia's parents didn't care much for her. They were more focused on her powers. Isis, who was perched on her shoulder, gently patted Dahlia on her cheek, knowing very well what she had been thinking about.

"Don't think about it too much," Aisling murmured as she slowly fluttered around Dahlia and Isis.

Dahlia flashed the two fairies an appreciative smile.

“What about you Dahlia? Got everything?”

A huge grin spread on Dahlia's face as she bobbed her head up and down. She had found some fantastic deals at the Port, letting her buy many of the parts she had wanted at a low price. To her, this was equivalent to finding a hidden treasure chest. Dahlia was serious about her tech things.

Zinc went over to Dahlia and lightly tapped her shoulder.

Aisling and Isis immediately flew away, flashing Dahlia a look of warning. They weren't very fond of Zinc, or rather Dione. She wasn't sure why, and they wouldn't tell her either.

"Where is the new food, utensils and storage system being put on the ship?"

"Ahh, those. I put them in the storage room down the hall from the kitchen. Um, but if you don't mind, do you think I can take a look at the storage system? I took a quick read on it earlier, and something in the system seemed a bit off." Dahlia said, biting her lip.

When she had touched the system earlier, she had sensed some malfunctions. But because her read had been so quick, she didn't know whether it was a big or small problem yet. She wanted to take a better look, but she would have to have permission first, of course.

problems? dione's favorite.

Aisling and Isis immediately flew away, flashing Dahlia a look of warning.

Dione put on a pleased grin and stroked Zinc's shoulder with her index finger. It was quite obvious why Aisling and Isis were wary of her. Mythical beings, like fairies, had acute senses for things that were "evil."

"Ahh, those. I put them in the storage room down the hall from the kitchen. Um, but if you don't mind, do you think I can take a look at the storage system? I took a quick read on it earlier, and something in the system seemed a bit off." Dahlia said, biting her lip.

Zinc frowned. Something was wrong? He should have known. He had gotten it for a exceptionally low price. He told Dione what to say, "Of course you can. Should we do it before we leave port, just in case we have to replace it?"

Dahliablushes

Zinc frowned.
"Of course you can. Should we do it before we leave port, just in case we have to replace it?"

"Ah, no, it's fine! I think we're leaving soon, so there won't be enough time to get a replacement. But I'm pretty sure that if anything's serious, I'll be able to patch it up without the need for a replacement..." Dahlia trailed off, feeling her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink.

She didn't like to upset or worry people in advance. Especially if it turned out to be nothing in the end. She found it quite embarrasing when things like that happened.

"Well... I need to go make some final checks..." and with that, Dahlia quickly excused herself and fled towards the ship.

There, Aisling, Isis, and a couple of crewmates were waiting. As the fairies fluttered around her, the mates reported the status of all the equipment and stored items. Once she made sure everything was in check, she nodded and thanked them.

Once the crewmates were gone, Dahlia pressed her hands onto the magnificent ship in front of her. She closed her eyes and relaxed, taking in all the images and details that were beginning to flood her mind. Everything seemed to be in perfect shape. All the rooms were clear, the engines and generators were healthily purring, and the ship was eager to set off for adventure.

Satisfied, Dahlia gave the ship a loving pat before removing her hands and heading back to the captain.

"The ship's ready to go, Captain," she reported.

virtue.
While everyone was rushing around getting the ship ready to leave port.
Virtue found himself a nice spot on the top deck at the edge. He looked around as the rest of the crew
scurried about the lower deck. He laughed.

"What's so funny Virtue?" Sere had landed on top of Virtue's head, she was in her fairy mode.
He glanced upwards. "Oh, Sere. Erm, just hoping that none of those guys down there trip or hurt themselves."
"That's why you're laughing?"
"Well, I wanted to go over this sheet music. Don't wanna be interrupted. The composition looks really nice."
He pulled out his harmonica and started playing a few notes, before finally getting the rest of the song.
"You're weird. But that was nice."
"Haahaha. Thanks."

diannathinks; sea&sky- nolimits

"The ship's ready to go, Captain," she reported.

Dianna had returned to the ship too, a huge basket in hand. “Good Work Dahlia, and the rest of you.”She said loudly hoping the rest could hear. The ship was huge, so her voice couldn’t be carried throughout the whole ship. They had tried different tactics to get the captain’s voice heard but none of them work, like the volume enhancing spell. Sure the rest of the crew heard her orders, but they heard every other thing she said; and not to mention the side effects of the spell. The captain was bedridden for a month after the spell wore away.

Dianna handed the basket to a passing crewmate. “Take that down to the kitchens, a gift from Mom.” The crewmate nodded taking the basket, almost dropping it straight away. “Careful, its heavy.” Dianna quickly added as the crewmate headed off, still struggling with the basket.

Dianna smiled as the time to leave drew near. She skipped up the steps that lead from the lower deck to the upper deck, where the helm neatly sat. She cupped her hands around her mouth, “Haul in the anchor!” She shouted, only to hear the order being shouted again to those on the other side.

“Dahlia.” She called in a much quieter tone, “We’ll start off in sea, and then move up to the sky, alright?”

The sound of fluttering wings from behind had her distracted. Before she could turn and see, a flash of gold and silver landed, right on the helm. “Nyx.”She murmured gently stroking the firebird’s beautiful feathers. She watched as the bird threw itself off the upper deck, and flew gracefully into her cabin, (most likely looking for his golden apples).

Dianna looked down at her hand. She had caught a small piece of parchment in Nyx’s feathers. “Dahlia,” She said uncertainly, holding up the parchment between fingers. “I think, I have found our destination.”

Dahlia&Co.

“Dahlia.” She called in a much quieter tone, “We’ll start off in sea, and then move up to the sky, alright?”

The Technician nodded and said, "Just give me the word, and I'll lift the ship whenever you're ready."

“Nyx.”She murmured gently stroking the firebird’s beautiful feathers. She watched as the bird threw itself off the upper deck, and flew gracefully into her cabin."

Dahlia smiled at the sight of the phoenix. She had been with the Captain and Nyx for five years now, soon to be six, but she never really went near the firebird. She knew he didn't like to be touched by strangers, and she had seen what Nyx had done to those that did. Not a very pretty sight.

Aisling and Isis, who had been arguing every since they boarded the ship, each plopped onto one of Dahlia's shoulders. Ignoring their bickering, Dahlia stopped one of the crewmates and called him over.

"Hey, can you bring the storage system that's in Storage Room 10 and take it to my Tech Room?" she asked.

The crewmate groaned, "Dahlia, I'm the one that had to carry it all the way there from the port. And now you want me to move it again? Not to mention how far the storage room is from your room?"

The Techie smiled a rather sinister smile while responding, "Rollo, you know what the storage system stores, right? Your food. Without it, you won't be getting a proper meal. Zinc works hard enough to make the food you guys eat, and not to mention how much he has to make thanks to our vast crew and their huge appetites. So you know, if that thing doesn't work, I'll make sure you are the one to blame."

Rollo's eyes widened. Being the blame for the lack of food on a pirate ship was never a good thing. Hungry, angry pirates, and being their target? Not good at all. He quickly scurried away, running towards the storage room.

Dahlia and the fairies shared a laugh.

“Dahlia,” She said uncertainly, holding up the parchment between fingers. “I think, I have found our destination.”

Dahlia and the fairies looked at the Captain with worried looks.

"Am I going to like this...?" the Technician warily asked.

In the background, you could hear the ship leaving the Port, as people cheered and waved goodbye. In the back of her mind, an image of the ship's main engine flashed by. It was still in perfect condition. It would be a smooth sail for now.

maybe, maybe not?

"Ah, no, it's fine! I think we're leaving soon, so there won't be enough time to get a replacement. But I'm pretty sure that if anything's serious, I'll be able to patch it up without the need for a replacement..." Dahlia trailed off, feeling her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink.

Zinc smiled. He waited for Dione to say what he was thinking but instead she was slowly twisting her hair around her finger. Dione had been misbehaving more frequently as of late. He assumed it was because their contract would be ending soon. Only twenty-two more days. Twenty-two more days until Dione left. Twenty-two more days until Zinc was twenty-two. Twenty-two more days until he reached his 10th anniversary for being a member of the ship. Twenty-two more days until he would speak again.

"Well... I need to go make some final checks..." and with that, Dahlia quickly excused herself and fled towards the ship.

He nodded. Once he could no longer see Dahlia Dione's sadistic laughter sounded.

"What's so funny?" She repeated his question and answered it, "Nothing dearie, nothing at all." She began walking toward the ship. Zinc ran to catch up with her but had his arm snagged suddenly. A bit surprised, he turned to look at the person who had grabbed him. If he had his voice he would have moaned. This poor girl had been chasing after Zinc since the moment she'd laid eyes on him. She wasn't ugly- in fact she was quite the opposite- nor was she rude- she was very polite, the thing was Zinc already had interest in someone else. He smiled at her and could tell it made her heart skip a beat. She began talking even though she was well aware Zinc would not be replying any time soon. He simply smiled and nodded along as she spoke.

“Haul in the anchor!” She shouted, only to hear the order being shouted again to those on the other side.

He motioned toward the boat. With a small peck on the cheek- he felt it was the least he could do for all her years of endearment- Zinc left for the ship. Dione was waiting for him. Grabbing his wrist they boarded the ship together. He started toward the kitchen, as that is wear he belonged.

Fairies on a Mission

"Am I going to like this...?" the Technician warily asked.

Isis floated off from Dahlia's shoulder, Aisling quickly following suit. They would give some time for the two to talk in detail. To pass the wait, the two fairies decided to look for Rollo.

Rollo was one of the few members of the crew that the fairies didn't mind being with. After all, he and Dahlia were good friends. And the fairies had helped him quite a bit when he first joined the crew...

Anywho, they found him soon enough, panting and sweating as he pushed and shoved a large storage system from out the storage room's door.

"Shouldn't you get someone to help you?" Aisling asked, perching on top of the machine.

"Don't sit on it, you'll make it heavier!" Rollo groaned.

Isis rolled her eyes and said, "Careful, Rollo. You make it sound like Aisling is somekind of obese human. For your information, we are fairies. We hardly weigh anything. It won't make much of a difference."

Aisling nodded her head, and after awhile she added, "You know, I could always use some simple magic and let the machine carry itself to Dahlia's room..."

Rollo's eyes widened in relief, "Oh gosh, thank you, thank y-"

"But, I won't. Because you said I was fat."

"Aisling, I never said that! You know what I meant!"

"Doesn't matter, I'm a girl you know. I have feelings."

"A girl? Psh, what girl? Don't you mean a thousand year old granny fairy?"

"Oh. No. You didn't just say that. Did you just say that? Did he just say that? I'm going to kill you!"

"Ah, no! I'm sorry! Isis, help me!"

"No can do, buddy. You reap what you sow, my dear friend."

"You guys are such cows!"

"What, did you just call us?"

"OH GOD, NO! HELP! RABID FAIRIES ON THE LOOSE!"

virtue to the rescue ?

"Virtue. We're getting ready to set sail." Sere sat up on his head, looking about.
"Mmkay." Virtue said, standing up and collecting his things (sheet music, harmonica).
Something felt wrong to Sere. She floated away quickly.
What's up with that? Virtue thought.
He headed towards the lower deck and then to another lower level where all the rooms were.
He could hear some faint.. yelling. He followed the sounds.

Right when he turned a corner, Sere almost flew into his face, she was panting.
"Virtue! Quick!" She quickly turned and flew away, wanting him to follow which he did.
"What happened?"

"You guys are such cows!"

"What, did you just call us?"

"OH GOD, NO! HELP! RABID FAIRIES ON THE LOOSE!"

"That's not good."
Quickly, Virtue pulled out his harmonica. "I don't know if this'll work but..."
He took a breath and then, he began playing.

Fairies Do Not Surrender. They Forgive.

He took a breath and then, he began playing.

Aisling and Isis laughed as they pulled themselves away from Rollo. They hadn't really done any damage. Rather, they had just tickled Rollo until the point where he couldn't breath anymore thanks to his laughter. Well... okay. Maybe that did count as damage.

Rollo wheezed as he tried to catch his breath, his red face gradually returning to its slightly tanned shade.

"We forgive you, since Virtue..." Aisling started. "...is being such a gentleman and trying to save your sorry butt." Isis finished.

"I never asked for your forgiveness," Rollo grumbled. He turned his attention to Virtue and said, "Thanks, man. These things are so crazy."

"I'll pretend you never said that," Isis said with a strangely calm smile, "but don't be surprised when you wake up the next morning with a bald head."

Rollo's eyes widened in horror as the fairies broke out into fits of laughter.

"Kidding, kidding. We're much to wise for such meaningless pranks," Aisling said with a tired smile, the fun suddenly all gone from her eyes.

"You should rest. Tell Dahlia first," Isis quietly murmured to her friend. Aisling nodded, throwing Rollo and Virtue a bright smile, but the tiredness still not leaving her eyes.

"I shall see you and your hair later, Rollo. Nice seeing you Virtue, your playing is as beautiful as ever. Now, I'm off." she said, giving the remaining three a wave before fluttering away.

"What was that about?" Rollo asked Isis, a worried expression on his face. Isis was guessing the look came from the worry about his hair, mixed with Aisling's act right now. She bet it was mainly his hair.

"Just tired," Isis said with a shrug, "And fear not, her tiredness will ensure the safety of your hair. She doesn't like to pull pranks when she's worn out."

The features on Rollo's face immediately brightened at the mention of his safety.

"It's all good then."

Typical Rollo. Go figure.

diannathinks; audience with her majesty. Ugh.

"Am I going to like this...?" the Technician warily asked.

Dianna unfolded the parchment, “Her Majesty, the Queen of Mist City, request an audience with us.” She passed the piece of parchment to Dahlia. “Oh and look. It says in huge, red letters ‘Matter of great urgency’.” Dianna said sarcastically, clenching her hands into a fist. She wasn’t a huge fan of the Queen and court. What? They didn’t really like pirates either.

“Great. I have to wear proper clothes AND I have to curtsey to that old bat that just doesn’t seem to die.” Dianna was pacing up and down the upper deck. That was something she did when she felt any strong emotion. Be that good or bad.

“I mean, what is she? 200 years old? And she claims not to have drunk the elixir of life.” Dianna scoffed, “Yeah right. She SO stole that from pirates.” No matter how much Dianna hated the Queen of Mist City, no one was allowed to reject her words and request because that would be just plain rude. They probably had laws on it too.

“I hate Mist City.” She finally said after a long sigh. “It’s not just the Queen, but That person is there too and works for the old brat.” Dianna groaned thinking about it made her sick. Tired from the pacing and she slumped down, leaning against the helm.

“To the skies then..."
