DahliaSighs

“Her Majesty, the Queen of Mist City, request an audience with us.” She passed the piece of parchment to Dahlia. “Oh and look. It says in huge, red letters ‘Matter of great urgency’.” Dianna said sarcastically, clenching her hands into a fist.

Dahlia accepted the piece of parchment and read over it. The more she read, the more pronounced her expression of distaste became.

"Well isn't this just wonderful," she muttered.

“Great. I have to wear proper clothes AND I have to curtsey to that old bat that just doesn’t seem to die.”

The Tech grimaced, staying silent as the Captain ranted and paced.

“I mean, what is she? 200 years old? And she claims not to have drunk the elixir of life.” Dianna scoffed, “Yeah right. She SO stole that from pirates.”

“I hate Mist City.” She finally said after a long sigh. “It’s not just the Queen, but That person is there too and works for the old brat.”

"Don't fret over it now, Captain. We should save that for later," Dahlia quietly said, taking a seat on the floor and crossing her legs. She lovingly stroked the worn boards underneath her, images of the ship flying through her mind.

“To the skies then..."

Dahlia stood up and walked to the helm, her hands doing an intricate dance of pushing buttons, pulling strings, turning wheels, and pulling levers. Honestly, the process for making the ship fly didn't really have to be that complicated. But Dahlia had wired it this way to make intruders less likely to take off into the air with their boat. Only the really trusted knew the method for making the ship soar.

Due to her years as the Tech, making the ship fly was like breathing. So it took less than a few seconds to have the magnificent boat lift out of the water and glide into the skies. Dahlia made sure to keep her hands on the wheel, so she could have a clear read on the ship as it moved.

"Perfect flight, Captain. The ship's in good shape." Dahlia said, double checking her read one last time before taking her hands off the wheel.

virtue // & all is well again... right?

"We forgive you, since Virtue..." Aisling started. "...is being such a gentleman and trying to save your sorry butt." Isis finished.

"I never asked for your forgiveness," Rollo grumbled. He turned his attention to Virtue and said, "Thanks, man. These things are so crazy."

"I shall see you and your hair later, Rollo. Nice seeing you Virtue, your playing is as beautiful as ever. Now, I'm off." she said, giving the remaining three a wave before fluttering away.

Virtue found himself in an awkward situation. He just put his harmonica away and nodded at the little faeries.
And to Rollo: "Not a problem. I'll be going back on deck now." Virtue saluted the company and turned to leave.

At the top, Virtue found his fellow ship mates and other crew members crowded around.
"What's going on?" He worked his way through the crowd to find the Captain, making an announcement.
Sere, Virtue's little faerie, suddenly landed on Virtue's shoulder.
"Look at the Captain, Virtue. She's all angry-looking about something."
"Yeah."

Dianna unfolded the parchment, “Her Majesty, the Queen of Mist City, request an audience with us.” She passed the piece of parchment to Dahlia. “Oh and look. It says in huge, red letters ‘Matter of great urgency’.” Dianna said sarcastically, clenching her hands into a fist.

"Did you hear that Virtue? The Queen!" Sere said.
"Hmm, the Queen." Virtue thought aloud, putting his hand to his chin.
"I haven't really met her or anything. Come to think of it, I haven't even seen a picture of the Queen."
"That's because you're too busy looking for pieces of music and trying to collect all your weird plants for your meds."
"Hey, don't judge me. Those things are just as important as the Queen."
Sere sighed. "If you say so."
"Well, won't this be a nice adventure. I've never met the Queen and here she is. Calling for our Captain's help.
It's sorta.. perfect."
"Yeah.. maybe too perfect. For you anyways.
"Come on Sere. Cheer up. Didn't you hear? The Queen could be over 200 years old. Pssh, like I'd go for that."

diannathinks; what to do

"Don't fret over it now, Captain. We should save that for later,"

“You’re right. You know what, when I see her, I’m going to give her a piece of my mind.” Dianna said excitedly as the magnificent ship lifted off the water and into the air.

“Do you think I should write down what I’m going to say?” She asked, then quickly answering, “No. I think I’m better at improvising.”

Dianna looked down at the lower deck spotting Virtue among the crew members. “Virtue,” She called, “Can you play something?”

It was a long flight to Mist City. As it was the centre of everything, it was located high up in the clouds. Hence, Mist City. The city itself was surrounding by a huge oxygen bubble, without it, most city dwellers would die. That was something her father explained to her. She was never really sure if that was a hint or something. Dianna had only ever been to Mist City twice in her whole life; once with her father, and once two years back. Both weren’t happy memories.

Dianna felt much better now that they were up in the air. The cool wind against her skin was the best feeling, so she said. Before she could even begin to enjoy herself, a crew member rushed up the steps, panic stricken look plastered on her face.

“C-Captain,” She began, “We have a stowaway.”

Happy Times.

virtue // music + technology = virtue's happiness

Virtue couldn't stop thinking of all the pieces of music he would find at Mist City.
His thoughts were interrupted by the Captain. He looked up.
“Virtue,” She called, “Can you play something?”

He grinned and saluted. "Sure thing, Cap`n!"
Virtue turned towards Sere. "Sere, can you bring me my sheets? The ones on my bed. Thanks."
As Sere headed for the bedrooms, he ran to the middle of the deck. There was a huge hidden door with a latch.
"Now where did I..?" Virtue searched his pockets for the keys.
"Aha!" The keys were in his boot.
Virtue unlocked the latch, lifted the door, and out of it revolved (mechanically), a grand piano.

Virtue clapped his hands together. "Yes! I've always wanted to use this."
He shouted towards Dahlia. "Hey! Dahlia! Thanks for setting this up for me!"
Sere returned with the sheet music in hand. "Thanks, Sere."
Virtue took his seat, placed the sheet music in the stand and his fingers on the starting keys, then began playing.

the art of food

After mixing in the eggs Zinc poured his concoction into a larger mixing bowl. Taking his whisk he began whipping the ingredients together.

"Didn't the Captain already eat a cake?" Dione asked while sticking her finger into the mixture and tasting it. Zinc slapped her hand away. That was made by her mother, not to gloat, but I'm a much better cook. Also, I'm making enough cake for the whole crew. It will be like a party.

"What are you making as the main meal? How about fish? We haven't had fish for a very long time." Fish was her favorite food.

Mentally Zinc searched the pantry. There was no fish- and they wouldn't have any until they got to the fishing grounds (why buy fish when you could catch it?) There was enough beef to feed an army. He'd probably use some of the vegetables, give them more flavor with spices. It was best to use them as quick as possible; they went bad quickly. Zinc had his meal planned out.

"Zinc," she whined, "I hate beef. Why must we eat such cute, dewy-eyed herbivores?"

While setting the cake mix in the oven Zinc groaned. Dione was beginning to annoy him. Stop complaining, you won't have to eat if you don't want to. You don't even have to eat period! Take a few bites of my heart and you'll be satisfied. As he started chopping the vegetables the kitchen fell into an unconformable silence. Of course, Zinc was used to silence. He didn't like it in the least, but he could put up with it.

Facepalm.

“You’re right. You know what, when I see her, I’m going to give her a piece of my mind.”

"Captain..." Dahlia said with a warning tone.

“Do you think I should write down what I’m going to say?” She asked, then quickly answering, “No. I think I’m better at improvising.”

Dahlia sighed, giving up, "Just try not to be rash, please?"

She still remembered the times where the Captain had "given a piece of her mind" to some rather important figures. Things had never ended pretty, and that was for sure.

"Hey! Dahlia! Thanks for setting this up for me!"

"No problem!" the Tech called, "Glad I could help!"

“C-Captain,” She began, “We have a stowaway.”

The Tech facepalmed. She swore that no one had been there when she had done a reading before they had sailed away from the Port...

"I'm so sorry, Captain," Dahlia said, clearly upset, "I must have been too careless with my reading... But I swear everything was clear..."

Dahlia hated stowaways. Especially the foolish ones who always managed to cause a mess in the storage rooms or wherever they were hiding. They stole rations and occasional treasure, and sometimes damaged things in the ship. But Dahlia's reads had always helped catch them. Either way, Dahlia still hated them. With a passion.

The two fairies, who seemed like that had appeared from no where, comfortingly perched on each of Dahlia's shoulders. Isis murmured in her ear while Aisling gently stroked her hair.

Ollie Has Arrived

Jerking the shirt over her head as Mill nudged the door open, Ollie let out the longest sigh she could manage. Today wasn't exactly her day. She left Mill in their room the whole time they'd been docked and nearly missed the boat as it was leaving port. She'd gotten her shirt dirty while climbing onto the boat and decided to change it before heading to the captain's area. Mill climbed up to her shoulders from her leg and cemented himself there. As she made her way across the boat she nodded and smiled at the passing crew members. It had taken her awhile but she finally remember all their names.

Just when Ollie was about to climb up the steps a crew member pushed past her.

“C-Captain,” She began, “We have a stowaway.”

A stowaway? She looked from Dahlia to Dianna. I'd been quite awhile since they'd have one. She'd almost forgotten what they did when one did appear. "So Cap'n what do you want to do with this one?"

diannathinks; life’s too short

"I'm so sorry, Captain, I must have been too careless with my reading... But I swear everything was clear..."

Dianna shook her head, “it’s okay; don’t get worked up about it.” She said cheerfully, following the crew member down onto the lower deck.

"So Cap'n what do you want to do with this one?"

“Oh Ollie, where did you disappear to?” She asked, as some members dragged the stowaway onto the deck. “You know, I haven’t actually decided yet.” She paused and confidently added: I’ll improvise.” Her face immediately darkened at the sight of the stowaway. It wasn’t human, not entirely surprising.

“So, what is a Satyr doing on my ship?”

It stayed silent.

“Declan, where did you find it?” she calmly asked.

“Maps room, Captain.”

“What?!” Dianna snapped.

“Nothing was taken.” He quickly answered, and then quickly stopped. He understood what had just happened. “I’ll go and see which maps, Cap’n. Sensing the angry tone in the captain’s voice, crew members drifted away from the circle of onlookers.

“You know,” Dianna stood in front of the Faun, “I was going to be nice and just lock you up, but now, I can’t do that.” She pulled the stowaway to his feet, well, hooves actually. “I can’t even throw you off my ship anymore either. Instead, we have to go through a question and answer session.”

“Lock him up.” She snarled, “I’ll deal with him later. And where is Declan?”

On Her Way.

Dahlia groaned, already not liking this. First the Queen, now this. How wonderful.

“Lock him up.” She snarled, “I’ll deal with him later. And where is Declan?”

"Captain, I'll check up with the prisoner once I do my rounds. It'll give him some time to think about his actions and what's to come," Dahlia said.

And with a respectful nod to the Captain, Dahlia was off. After a read on the ship's condition, she checked in with her tech crew, making sure all storage items were safe. And then she was just practically running around, doing whatever odd jobs needed to be done. She didn't really need to do this, but Dahlia felt plenty of commitment and responsibility for the ship and crew, so that was that.

When she finally finished, she walked to her room with feelings of great accomplishment. Nope, that was a lie. She just felt worn out and tired. But that did not stop her from admiring the sun that was slowly starting to set, casting beautiful colors throughout the sky. Her admiring caused her to almost crash into her bedroom door, but she was luckily able to catch herself.

Only to trip on a book when she entered her room.

Cursing to herself, Dahlia changed her clothes, trying to ignore her throbbing toe. Once she was in a pair of more comfortable sweats and a tanktop, she made her way to the holding cells, all the way at the bottom of the ship. She never really liked it down there. Even though she had helped design the holding cells... Nonetheless, it was creepy. So she dragged Aisling and Isis along.

Arriving at the cell holding their prisoner, Dahlia leaned against the wall across from the bars, staring at the Satyr. Isis and Aisling fluttered about, twittering about different methods of torture, clearing trying to freak the prisoner out.

The Tech continued to stare, knowing even without a read, that it was creeping him out. After all, getting stared at by a girl with multi-colored eyes while in a cell can be creepy. Very creepy, in fact.

virtue & the music continues to play

“So, what is a Satyr doing on my ship?”

Sere overheard what all the commotion was about.
She flew back to Virtue, whispering back the information into his ear.
Virtue kept his fingers on the keys though and continued to play.
"Oh! I'd like to see this.. Satyr for myself. You know, they say their hair is an important
ingredient in the concoction for curing amnesia."
Virtue continued to play though, knowing that the music helped his fellow crew mates work
at a steady pace, keeping with the flow of the sounds.
"You know you can rework that contraption so that it can continue playing by itself." Sere reminded Virtue.

"You're right, Sere! I will do exactly that. Now... how did Dahlia do it the first time?" Virtue thought as he continued to play.
"Here, I'll help you out." Sere said, flying to the bottom of the piano, where Virtue was stepping on the pedals.
"Press the red pedal on the far left side. That should leave it in automatic,
playing the same set of notes as you were."
"Oh yes! I remember." Virtue did as he was told. Then he lifted his fingers off the piano keys
and soon they were being pressed down all by itself as if by some invisible figure.
"What a sight! This will be good for now while I go find that Satyr." Virtue leaped off the piano seat
and went searching for the Satyr's whereabouts.

diannathinks; not worth the effort

Dianna had returned to her chamber and thrown herself on the bed. She was tired. First the Queen and now a Satyr stealing maps. Could things be more annoying? Dianna flung her pillow across the room, knocking down a couple vases. She didn’t care, she wasn’t bothered. Her brain hurt and that’s all that mattered.

The sweet sound of Virtue’s music slipped through the cracks and open window. She felt much calmer, much more serene. Then, the door burst open.

“Captain!” It was Declan. Dianna looked over at the Irish lad they had picked up a few years ago. She could still remember how useless he was when they first added him to the crew. Tripping on ropes and goodness knows the amount of times he fell overboard.

“Lemme guess. Bad news?”

He nodded grimly, then adding in a mock serious tone, “You are a genius.” He stopped instantly, handing over the maps, murmuring and quick apology before quickly leaving. Dianna took one look at the maps and buried herself under the duvet. This was probably going to be worse than she had originally thought.

“Oh, damn it all to hell.” She cursed pushing the maps away before clambering out of her bed to retrieve the pillow. This was the reason why she envied those who lived under rocks. They didn’t have to worry about crazy people doing crazy things.

She looked over a Nyx, who was sleeping peacefully as if there was nothing wrong with the world. He had probably scoffed his face with golden apples before taking his super long nap. That was basically his daily routine.

“Nyx,” she called quietly and then louder, “Nyx!”
There was no change. He was completely out of it.

*

“Hey Dahlia.” After giving up on trying to awake Nyx, Dianna dragged herself down to the cells. “This is ... really not good.” She sighed, “No. This is terrible.” She was pacing again, hands stuck in her pocket.

“You know, even I haven’t looked at the maps HE tried to steal.” She stopped to glare at the Satyr before continuing the pacing. “They’re the ones, that guy, what’s-his-face gave us, you know, the guy who claimed to be a friend of my father.” Dianna was babbling now, not being able to stop herself.

After a good couple minutes, she stopped.

“So, has he said anything?”

Blame & Guilt, Much?

“Hey Dahlia.” After giving up on trying to awake Nyx, Dianna dragged herself down to the cells. “This is ... really not good.” She sighed, “No. This is terrible.” She was pacing again, hands stuck in her pocket.

She greeted the Captain with a grim smile.

“You know, even I haven’t looked at the maps HE tried to steal.” She stopped to glare at the Satyr before continuing the pacing. “They’re the ones, that guy, what’s-his-face gave us, you know, the guy who claimed to be a friend of my father.”

Dahlia groaned. This was all her fault. She wouldn't be surprised if people started blaming her once word got out about the maps. Which was probably already happening. The Tech fell into an endless hole of self-hatred and guilt.

Dianna was babbling now, not being able to stop herself.
After a good couple minutes, she stopped.

Dahlia had been silent the whole time, still battering herself in her mind.

“So, has he said anything?”

"Unfortunately, no," she sighed, "But I did find out pretty much everything through my read."

"Look here, animal boy thing," Dahlia said, channeling her frustration and anger into a rather scary tone of voice, "you see those two fairies over there? They're not kidding about their torture methods. And you see me? I know everything about you. So if you confess now, we'll go easy on you. You wanna keep silent? Well that's too bad. Because you'll be facing hell from there on out then. Make your decision in 10 seconds. That's all I'm giving you. 10... 9... 8..."

I Must Be Tired
Again, she was late. Ollie was running down toward cells, stumbling with every few steps. She wasn't usually clumsy but something about today was making her. Was it possibly the absence of Mill? She had expected to see him near Dione, as they seemed to be friends. The kind of friends who enjoy ripping each other to shreds and then... Ollie closed her eyes tightly. She did not need that image in her head right now. Dione and Mill... together... alone... NO! Closing her eyes hadn't helped. Focus on something else. She told herself.

She thanked the heavens when she reached the cells. Something else focus on. While walking down the stairs she heard Dahlia's speech.

10... 9... 8..."

Dahlia was intimidating. Ollie wondered if she could muster the same tone of voice... probably not. She jumped from the steps and went over to the two and waited for the Satyr to speak.

diannathinks; more than one enemy

"Unfortunately, no," she sighed, "But I did find out pretty much everything through my read."

“That’s good.” She looked over at the Satyr then back at Dahlia, “Declan showed me which maps. I can’t get over it.” She was on the road to blabbing again. “Why now? Why would someone want those maps at this point in time?”

She looked back over at the Satyr. “I highly doubt he even knows much. He is a Satyr after all.” Satyrs were the mischievous type but when paid the right amount of gold, they would do whatever asked. But hey, that was the same with every kind of creature.

That's all I'm giving you. 10... 9... 8...
She jumped from the steps and went over to the two and waited for the Satyr to speak.

“Hey Ollie.” Dianna said brightly. “And no you haven’t missed much. We are still in a whole load of shite. Oh, and I’m losing it.” But they already knew that. If she knew it, then they definitely knew it. “Gosh, if this is the Mist Queen’s doing-”

“It’s not.” The Satyr spoke. He had a sort of hoarse voice, probably needed a drink or something. “You think you know everything?” He directed his at Dahlia. “What I know is nothing compared to what he knows.”

“And this plot thickens,” Dianna muttered sarcastically, “There is a he. Who is he?”

The Satyr shrugged. “I don’t know. Never met him.” He paused, “I don’t even know if he is a he or a she or even an it.”

“Then who is ...it?”

“It,” as they were now referring it to, “is the one with the plan.” The Satyr said, obviously bored with the whole conversation.

“So...it wants the maps.” Dianna thought out aloud, “And you failed to get the maps, so it will sent more for the maps. Am I right?”

The Satyr shrugged again, “Most likely.”

“Do you even know where the map leads?” Dianna asked, guessing his answer would be no.

“Nope. I wasn’t told.”

Dianna turned to Dahlia, “We need to get to Mist City faster.” She bit her lip. “I think I know why the Queen summoned us.”

This was turning out to be one hell of a birthday.

I'm Hungry... No, For Real.

Dahlia waved to Ollie before returning her attention to the Satyr. Oh how she wanted to strangle him. And chop off his furry legs... Oh my, since when had she become so violent? Must have been the influence of living with pirates for so long...

“You think you know everything?” He directed his at Dahlia. “What I know is nothing compared to what he knows.”

Dahlia rolled her eyes. Did he not know about her powers? Although, technically speaking, there is no way to know everything! Oh! Well it was her mistake then. Since she was the one who said she knew everything... But still! Oh, wait. She was getting off track. She focused and returned to their conversation.

She listened to what the Satyr had to say, and from her read, she knew he wasn't lying... For now at least. She'd sneak another good read while he was asleep...

Dianna turned to Dahlia, “We need to get to Mist City faster.” She bit her lip. “I think I know why the Queen summoned us.”

"Right on it, Captain. But... even if I sail at full speed, it'll take us at least a day and a half to get there... Even longer if the weather goes against us..." the Tech said, biting her lip. "But I'll try my best!" And with that, she was off to the wheel.

One of her tech team members was lazily steering the wheel, managing to read a book at the same time. Dahlia sighed and snatched the book away, scolding, "Focus only on steering. Never anything else."

The guy pouted and was about to complain, when Dahlia said, "Captain wants us at full speed."

The crewmate's eyes immediately brightened and became filled with excitement. "Right away, ma'am!" he yelled in joy, beginning to pull levers and buttons.

"The ride better be smooth, or I'm taking you off duty and finding a replacement," The Tech warned.

"I won't let you down!" he saluted.

Dahlia grinned and gave him a pat before walking away. She let out a deep breath and hoped things would be okay...
