I am extremely close to one of friends and there has always been a sort of romantic/sexual tension between us. It's not quite as romantic as movies make it out to be, though. There's usually a lot of judging and condescension involved, especially if the two friends are part of a group of friends. Apparently, it ruins the group dynamic or something. Pft, whatever.

A lot of people simply tack on 'best friend' to someone they get along with. Gotta know how it will hold up in the face of a real problem before you can call someone a 'best friend'
