Yes, they very much can. My girlfriend and I were (and still are) best friends. We've been together over 2 years now, and been living together for almost 5 months.

If you're compatible in a physical sense its tempting. One super close female friend of mine and I found touching each other, nonsexually, like 2nd nature. We both were normally reserved in being affectionate, even with those we dated, but with each other it just clicked. We both had feelings for one another but never felt comfortable risking the friendship despite the prodding of several people in our lives, one of her exes even said we should go out Not sure if that was the right call but I have no regrets as to this day I've never made her cry, instead I make her smile

Might depend on what makes you "best friends" in the first place.

Well that all depends on the people involved since everyone is unique. Personally it was the other way around for me. I became best friends with her because I like her. It may not be the same, but its something.

I think that people have to learn to be best friends before they can fall in love!
To first get to know each other and enjoy each other's company without having feelings involved.
Otherwise, it never really works out, does it?

Yes, I love my best friend... And I know he loves me too.. But things are perfect the way they are so I find no need to ruin a good thing.
