as the U.S minority population increases the Anglo-American entertainment industry and the media continues to be racist towards them

Unoriginal Asian Stereotypes in “Two Broke Girls” pilot

Racebending.com was recently alerted to a very stereotypical, appalling casting call for a Korean immigrant character on a CBS sitcom pilot, Two Broke Girls. It’s from the mind of Michael Patrick King, whose previous contributions to entertainment media include Sex and the City 2‘s awkward magic carpet ride to Dubai.

The character, “Rice Lee,” is portrayed as a stereotypically backward and socially stunted Asian immigrant, who is repeatedly mocked and corrected by his white co-workers (including Max, one of the titular “broke girls.”)

Lee can’t wear his pants correctly, can’t speak English properly, and doesn’t understand the concept of holidays. Because it’s not like Koreans wear pants, take English in elementary school, and celebrate holidays like Christmas.

In short, “Rice” is a disaster of a character, like something out of a Long Duk Dong time machine. It’s such a shame given CBS was recently honored for improving the representation of Asian Americans on television, and just sponsored Banana II, the Asian American bloggers conference.

Media Takes Note of “The Hunger Games” Casting

Over the past few days casting speculation about Lionsgate/Colorforce’s latest film, The Hunger Games, has kicked into full gear.

It started with a Wall Street Journal article featuring Debra Zane Casting, the casting office in charge of culling through headshots of thousands of potential actresses for the role of Katniss, the novel’s lead heroine. The article by John Jurgensen reported that the casting breakdown distributed by Breakdown Services read that actresses submitting for the role “should be Caucasian, between ages 15 and 20, who could portray someone ‘underfed but strong,’ and ‘naturally pretty underneath her tomboyishness.’”

Fans who have read the novels know that while Katniss has a blonde mother, she takes after her father, whose ethnicity is never clearly stated. Katniss’s “olive skin” and “straight black hair” are physical traits that could be possessed by someone of any ethnicity–including people of mixed ethnicity. Given Katniss’s unspecified ethnicity, fans were confused as to why the casting call specifically targeted only white actors.

I've read some of the posts in this forum and paid attention that most of them prove the racism in Hollywood, which doesn't seem right to me.

In my opinion, everything depends on the way you look at the issue.

Stereotypes will be forever and used for every race, be it "Black" people, "White", "Asian", "Jewish", "Caucasian", "Muslim" and so on. Why? Probably because a lot of jokes that belong to famous showman in every country relate to stereotypes. And people who attend the shows enjoy them, well, TV-audience also does. That was just an example out of thousand other reasons.

I, as an opposing person to racism, can find a lot of Hollywood movies that represent "Black" people in a very respectful way. For instance, take Morgan Freeman in a role of "God" in the movie "Bruce Almighty" (2003). Is the "God" 's role that bad?!

Morgan Freeman portraying God was a pitiful way for the producers to not seem racist. They may as well have had Cheech Marin play the part.

What makes you think so?

The God is accepted by everyone as the most wisdom creature and source of love. Which makes him automatically the most respected. In my eyes, Mr. Freeman suits perfectly for such a role.

God isn't respected by everyone, especially not homosexuals. And Morgan Freeman is an ideal "God" in many ways, but some might prefer Al Pacino or Marlon Brando.

Well, according to Al Pacino's role as the Devil in "The Devil's Attorney", I just fail to imagine him now as the "God".

When you start the discussion about who is better for the "God" 's role, the issue of racism falls of. You see, every three actors that you and me have mentioned belong to different races. Since the God has no race or anything related to it, the candidates for His role are seen as equal from the point of racism. The only thing that matters is their skills in acting.

P.S. I doubt that every homosexual hates the God...

Any homosexual who doesn't disapprove of a vindictive and cruel being needs a psychiatrist. God also supposedly made the sodomites cram their arms into each other's rectums. That's just fucking sick, man.

If you want a white man to portray God, then we may as well go with Brad Pit, or, hell, even Mel Gibson. That is, before Gibson he went batshit insane.

About homosexual, lesbian, sodomites or any other people related to them, I know nothing about them and the way they think. I am just happy enough to be a natural person and that's it. I have also written that I doubt that everyone of homosexuals hates the God, who knows what they believe...

Anyway, your suggestions of actors for the role of the God has nothing to do with proving that there is racism in Hollywood...

And your statements have nothing to do with disproving it. This is altogether a lousy thread topic.

Racism is everywhere, including Hollywood. You think it was originally founded during a time when there wasn't bigotry? I am sure you don't. The majority will agree, Hollywood is mostly ran by white people, but certainly not ruled by them. Originally, black people weren't allowed to speak when playing a role. However, the black dude ALWAYS dies first.

LOL

But I agree with you. Indeed, humanity will always suffer from racism, because people like to point at others and say that they are worse.

Which is called a scapegoat. Ancient peoples derived that from sending a goat into a desert with sins on its back. Hitler blamed the Jews for things they never really did, and called everyone else inferior when they quite obviously weren't. It is almost a crime to be white today, but that too is scapegoating.

Hmm... to come to think about that, did racism come from scapegoat? I mean, scapegoat is usually insulting/blaming others and racism is pretty much the same but for a certain group of people...

No, I think racism had to have began back when Cro-Magnons started killing off Neanderthals. lol.

The Egyptians were the first to oppress the Jews, and utilized them for slaves to build many monuments. I am sure so long as there has been civilization, bigotry has existed, as well. It is simply a matter of one race thinking it is better than another, in this instance. I think in Hollywood, it is a matter of who looks best on the silver screen, and that is open to a great deal of debate.

Prove it. Go ahead. My theory is as good as yours. The Jews did derive Satan from Set, so that would kind of piss off people in Egypt who disapprove of plagiarism.

The pyramids are very well made, so you'd think the well-educated Jews had to have had some influence on their design.
