The reason may just be due to history. Back during the world war II days, Canada's treatment of Japanese Canadian people were pretty terrible. From what I can remember from my history classes is that rather than just bringing the Japanese into camps, so that they could avoid the hostility from the other nationalities, Canada actually took there property away and sold it all away at fire sale prices(Ridiculously cheap prices). So things like there boats, jewellery, even there house were taken away and sold. By the time the war was over the Japanese Canadians that were sent to the camps basically received no compensations for all there losses and were left with nothing.

It wasn't until about 5-10 years ago I believe that the Canadian government finally took action against there treatment towards the Japanese handing out loads of cash to the Japanese Canadian families who were affected.

That's the biggest possible reason I could see any hostility towards the 2 countries other than maybe Stephen Harper not going with the Kyoto protocol.

It wasnt loads of cash. It was 20, 000. Do you think thats enough?

I guess are standards are different as getting $20, 000 right on the spot would be quite a lot to me.

Do I think it was enough for the way they treated them? No, considering by today's standards they've lost hundreds of million of dollars. The $12 million they gave to the NAJC is barely enough to compensate, but considering how long it even took the Canadian government to even apologize, at least they've acknowledged they've done wrong, rather than continue on like it never happened. It's even apart the history curriculum.

Sorry if I'm coming off harsh, but when you stated your question like that, I felt the need to defend myself.

Hmmmm well I agree with the general comment, where the source? I never seen or heard such a thing. Heck I lived in Japan for a number of years and being Canadian people were quite nice to me. I am calling it bull unless someone points me to the source of this survey.

Now as for the Japanese interment, that is yes a very contentious issue and still a major sore spot for alot of Japanese-Canadians. It was a great injustice and the government been apologizing and trying to make amends. But you must remember a couple of things, firstly we Canadians weren't the only ones, the Americans did the same thing. Both countries came out and trying to make amends to our past and the second thing, THESE ARE JAPANESE-CANADIANS. They were the ones who came to Canada before world war 2. All subsequent Japanese immigrants would have no experienced this. Almost all those that were interned are still in Canada, heck I met one old man who still remembers his childhood growing up in an interment camp as a young child and still speaks about it with contempt. It's sad and I had no words, he was Canadian but because of his race he was put into a camp as a child... kind of sickness me. Anyways it's not like these people up and went back to Japan after WW2...several Japanese Canadian and American Politicians have been proding the government to redress the issue and I know few years back there was something that happened. I doubt that will take away any of the bitterness of the issue.

Of course there is the fanatical right wing freaks as I like to call them in Japan. If you ever live there you will once in a while see some black vans with loudspeakers blarring some were speech or patriotic music. These guys are freaking crazy and they belong to an ultra right wing political movement that got like less than 1% of the population supporting them. They are the crazy ones that stir up the trouble and cause all sort of political problems like claiming Japan did no wrong in WW2 or wanting to expel the foreigners in Japan. They hate foreigners, and pretty much everyone else too if you ask me, they want to re-write history books which usually pissed off China's government and all sort of stupid crap. However they are supported by the yakuza and several of these members have assassinated some politicans, and on occasion attacked liberal japanese and foreigners. Now if you were to ask them if they like or hate Canada I am sure they would would indeed hate Canada but they pretty much hate everyone.
