I'm going to be a camp counselor this summer, and I'm going to get drug tested soon. I'm going to pass, but drug tests kinda piss me off, no pun intended. I mean, some drugs can have really bad effects on people that would affect their job performance, but stuff like pot doesn't even necessarily affect your job performance, and even if it's illegal, if you buy it on your own time and smoke it on your own time, why should your employment care? I just think it's another sign of the ignorant masses buying into the media-fueled fear of drugs

If it's illegal, you could go to jail. o-o;;

Plus, they might be worried that the other employees would catch on to the habit.

Btw, I'm not really sure on this stuff. x-x (So, please don't say "ur stupid, datz totally rong noob" D:)

Pot does have effects. They should test people. I don't want anybody high around me on the job.

stop crying

No one is forcing you to work there

It should be allowed. If people never consumed things that harm them, there wouldn't be any need for drug testing.

Obviously, you haven't seen the economy in America. You take what you can get when it comes to jobs.

Then shouldn't you be happy that you got a job instead of crying about a drug test that you're going to pass?

Okay, first off, I'm expressing an opinion. Knock it off with the whole "crying" thing. It's really immature. Secondly, I was using this job as a gateway for a bigger conversation, since drug tests basically say, "Well, you may be the most qualified, have the best skills, attitude on the job site, basically things that would help the employer and the company as a whole, but since you smoked a certain plant a month ago, maybe even longer than a month ago, even if throughout this hiring process you've been professional and not under the influence at all, too bad for you." You're telling me that this is fair?

buhuu it isn't fair.
Crying is crying

Yes it is fair.
Companies and organizations have policies and guidelines they follow. If that doesn't suit you then get out.

Well it's getting late and I have an exam tomorrow morning. Night

an employer has the right to hire or not hire whomever they want. as part of that process, a drug test seems completely reasonable. the same as the prospective employee has the right to decline and look elsewhere. that is what is so great about freedom. personally, i would not care so much if a person smoked marijuana, as i do not see anything inherently wrong with it, considering the person was bright, energetic and responsible and not just some stoner. but drug tests screen other drugs as well, i would like to know if a prospective employee was a user of heroine for instance, since there is no way i would hire such a person, since its my time, money and reputation on the line.

Being a camp counselor means you will be working with kids, right? Parents are trusting their kids in you camp's care so why shouldn't they get the reassurance that the staff do not use drugs?

He's not crying, asshole, he's expressing a completely valid opinion. Way to sound like a douche.

I agree with Knightofmana. I don't mind drug testing. Even though I don't take any drugs, I understand that the company that is employing me has every right to do one.

I hate being drug tested but it does have it's place. I get tested all the time. I do think that when most people talk about drug testing it becomes a discussion on whether or not Marijuana should be legalized. Most people who complain about testing usually only complain because they want to use Marijuana and nothing else. But that's just my experience.

I take 10 different "legal" drugs hell I am amazed I pass my test when I need take one >_> on a side note I find nothing wrong with smoking weed or drinking it's our body let us fuck up any way we want to unless we are around kids in a profession like a teacher or something but a normal chaisher job shouldn't need too >_>
