I got Rosetta Stone hoping it would be a good language program, and I tried it for about 10 Minutes and I thought it's horrible.
Has anyone had any success learning from this program?
It doesn't seem like it actually works, I'm just glad I didn't buy it..

I hate it myself. In the past I had numerous arguments with people regarding Rosetta Stone and quite frankly, the people concerned have not mastered or even improved their skills with the languages of their choice. Language learning is tough, it is boring and most certainly frustrating. You cannot learn a language faster than your brain can retain information and no super-duper interactivity or 'fun' whatever the hell will alter that fact.

good this i found this I"ve been thinking of buying that, i was a little sceptic about it, they claim you can learn a language that fast, frankly I've had 2 years of spanish and didnt fully grasp the subject. Thats why i wasent too sure about their claim it seemed way too farfetched.

Remember the old adage, "Practice makes perfect". If you find what you study boring or un interesting then you're not going to devote brain power to actually learning it permanantly. You're only going to get as much out of it as you put in.

I remember it only took me 2 weeks of steady studying just to learn the basics for Katakana and Hirigana, and because I devoted my interest in it I learned it. I'm not sure about Rosetta Stone myself, but in some ways it is very affective depending on how you approach it. My HS Japanese language teacher also stated the best way to learn a language is throw away everything you know, and learn as if you were a child.

So either you can give up and say it doesn't work or you can buckle down and put more interest in you studying and get the benefits.

Honestly? I've learned more from anime than I have from Rosetta Stone. It's great for learning basic words and the hiragana and katakana, though.

i bought it and i think if i keep focus and practice with it i'll learn more, but the only problem for me is that whenever i use it i get REALLY sleepy after a while ^_^' it gets kinda repetitive sometimes...

I've been using Rosetta Stone Japanese for a while and I've found that it IS helpful since it drills sentence patterns and vocab into your head. It isn't very effective alone though, since it never explains anything.

Of course if you only work with it for ten or fifteen minutes it's not going to work. I personally love Rosetta Stone. It works really well when you are willing to put effort into it. Anime can only teach you so much, and my JAPANESE (from Japan) Japanese teacher says that real people don't actually talk like those in anime. Also, there's the vocal drills which can help you get better pronunciation, and the Rosetta Stone program helps with that.

The fact that you guys have such an opinion of Rosetta Stone indicates that you likely lack patience, and you expect instant results. Of course it won't work instantly, and it won't teach you EVERYTHING. I've yet to find ANY resource that will do such a thing. The vocabulary it teaches is incredibly useful and amazingly easy to learn, and also once you learn the words, you find that you use them a lot. I finished the first whole set, and along with my Japanese class, I can actually speak Japanese passably well. My vocabulary isn't limited to 'OMg, taht is so kyawaii!' or some BS like that.

That's my opinion, and if you don't like it, you can stick it. (I taught myself Hiragana in 2 days. Maybe it takes the motivation most people lack.)

You obviously have no patience and that's what you need to learn a language
I used rosetta stone for a couple of months and now I can say semi-complex japanese easily
Plus my boyfriend helps me out with saying it so you can also have a japanese partner to converse with so you can actually put it to use since I speak a lot of japanese when I'm at my boyfriend's house

I have it and have learned A LOT. The content at the end is very hard stuff a lot of ppl dont like it that dont think u can learn a language with immersion and feel u need to study in a class ( i dont think that is ture) but it depends on who you are and it works best to use other things with it book and sites

I spent $500 on it but didn't really understand how to use it until I learned Spanish for school.
it is a very interesting and effective tool for learning a language!
I like it, although I barely have the time to sit and use it.

I got Rosetta Stone and it's okay but it's not worth it's cost. I personally like to find out and get some free learning sources from Tofugu.com.
