Hatoyama-Wen meeting scheduled for May 31
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama will meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on May 31st during a 3-day visit to Japan.
The 2 leaders are expected to sign an agreement to promote food safety, in the wake of poisoning cases in Japan more than 2 years ago that were caused by insecticide-laced dumplings produced in China.
They are also expected to allow visits to food factories in each other's countries upon approval from the other party if food safety problems arise.
They are likely to reaffirm that bilateral working-level meetings will continue to discuss specific steps for achieving progress with a joint gas project in the East China Sea.
Before holding talks in Japan, the two leaders will meet on the South Korean island of Cheju for a summit of Japan, China and South Korea.
The 2-day summit, which starts on May 29th, is expected to take up the suspected involvement of North Korea in the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel in March.
