Gu Hye-sun takes the stage in The Musical

The Musical began filming earlier this month, and we’ve already seen the stills of “musical diva” Ok Joo-hyun performing onstage. In that scene, the character played Gu Hye-sun watches in the audience and reaffirms her musical aspirations.

Gu is currently in the thick of dancing and vocal rehearsals for her role as a medical student whose real dream is to become a musical actress. Her passion for the stage is so great that she takes a break from medical school to give her dreams a try.

Despite her efforts, Gu’s character fails eighty auditions, thanks to her unusually low singing voice. (This should be interesting, since Gu’s own singing voice isn’t low, and I presume she was cast in this drama because she would be doing her own singing. On the contrary, her voice is on the thin, high side.)

The Musical is planning to air later this year, but doesn’t have a scheduled premiere date yet.

Park Ki-woong joins The Musical

He’ll play a cool-headed musical producer, and complicates romantic matters as the third leg of the love triangle with Gu and Choi.

Park felt such enthusiasm for the project that he drew his own sketch of the character and sent it to director Kim, which you can see below. (Drawing is one of Park’s hobbies, as he explained in a previous interview.) The drawing was so similar to the director’s idea of the character that he gave Park a nickname, “Chado Ki-woong,” where “chado” is a shortening of “cold city man” (차가운 도시 남자). After he was cast, Park cut his hair to match the drawing and dyed his lightened hair to a darker brown.

Newbie actress Ki Eun-sae joins The Musical

The Musical (starring Gu Hye-sun, Ok Joo-hyun, Daniel Choi, and Park Ki-woong) has just cast newbie actress Ki Eun-sae in a crucial supporting role. She’ll play second-lead in a love triangle between Gu Hye-sun and Park Ki-woong, as well as carry some of the melo aspects of the story, along with the two female leads.

This isn’t Ki’s first time on screen, however, as she is a CF fixture these days, starring in as many as eight commercials in one season, including one for SK Telecom. She also had a minor role in the film The Good, the Bad, the Weird as an opium den gisaeng.

The producers were impressed with her intelligent image in her audition, and cast her in the dramatic role, despite her relative newness. I don’t know what it means to “appear intelligent,” since I’d care more whether she IS intelligent or isn’t, so thanks for reinforcing the stereotype that actresses need only “appear” to be something, Korean media. (Okay, rant over.)

She’ll play a professional woman who works hard to protect her love. Hopefully she’ll be able to hold her own, and inject some dimension into the second female lead.

The Musical is currently in production, and has yet to find a broadcaster and premiere date.

“The Musical” reveals pictures of Goo Hye Sun dancing

The upcoming KBS drama series, “The Musical”, revealed cuts of Goo Hye Sun dancing in the middle of a busy street with fellow castmate Park Kyung Lim.

In another picture, Goo Hye Sun seems to be dancing a rather powerful dance while dressed in masculine attire. Rumors say that she had to dance into the early mornings in order to shoot that one scene.

The producers revealed, “It must’ve been hard for her to concentrate because of the crowd that surrounded her, but she was very professional and focused on every second of the choreography.”

“The Musical” will be released in the middle of October after the filming wraps up on New York’s Broadway.

Gu Hye Sun’s The Musical is in jeopardy

The most anticipated Gu Hye Sun’s drama The Musical already started its shooting since August 2010 but now is suspended.
The 2 leading cast, Gu Hye Sun and Choi Daniel are doing another project right now.

Choi Daniel is busy shooting Baby-faced Beauty with Jang Na Ra , airs on KBS next month, meanwhile Gu Hye Sun’s dedicating herself for Peach Tree, produced by herself.

As a drama from production company , The Musical failed to get deal with some major broadcasting station to receive slot for airing schedule. When a drama doesn’t get a certain slot, it will difficult to attract sponsor, that might the case for The Musical.

Although there’s speculation that the suspension will take quite long time, we believe that The Musical will finally get air date, they already shoot in New York for God sake.
