chopsticks. i use them for anything asian. for other food i use what is commonly used for it(for example: spaghetti->spoon, fork; hamburgers and fries-> fingers).

First of all, thank goodness someone is getting onto the 'weaboos' that have fled to all corners of the internet. I am an American, but living in Japan, I am very shy about speaking Japanese to anyone for fear that they will automatically assume I am one of those people who says things like "Kawaii desu desu!" and stuff like that.
Secondly, I prefer chopsticks because for me it is cleaner (some sushi here in Japan can be messy!), but I see a lot of people here enjoy it with their fingers.

Anyway, what the heck is wrong with you people?! Fingers?? Sushi is so sticky and messy!! Whenever I eat sushi with my fingers, it falls apart AND I get rice all over my hands! D: Chopsticks, definitely, even though I haven't mastered using them.

Um... Actually sushi is a fingerfood and is meant to be eaten with your fingers, especially nigiri sushi.

It depends on the company I'm with. If I'm eating with my more traditional friends I'll use my fingers, but if I'm not eating with them then I'll use chopsticks. It also depends on whether I don't mind getting my fingers dirty or not.

If your learning Japanese in Sasebo, your going to sound strange to tokyo people anyway. On the other hand, there seems to be few foreigners in Japan that speak japanese, so the fact that your trying is really good. It shows you have some respect for your host country. Don't be shy, go out and meet people.
I learned what little I know, from girls I dated when I lived in Japan (sasebo base being one of those places). the only person who didn't like me speaking Japanese was my X wife. She didn't like that I spoke the female version of Japanese. but when you learn from girls, you learn to speak like them.
