The video quality for the app leaves a little to be desired but for the most part is good. A problem I run into fairly often, especially lately, is the videos are hitting a reference frame then closing with an error message: "Sorry this video cannot be played." For example I couldn't even start Naruto Shippuuden Episode 92 through the app. I could watch it on computer fine however. Absolutely not being able to to watch a video is a very rare occurance but the problem seems to arise more often in the middle of a stream. You can kinda see that it's usually at a reference frame, i.e. scene ends, first frame of next scene pops up, then error message and return to episode outline page. Note it's NOT a force close, as in probably not an internal error with the app but likely a streaming error of some kind? Also the scene seems to play fine if you open he video back up and reload it from where you left off. Hopefully issues cab be resolved =) thanks for your website and this great app! Can't wait to see what's next! (Hey any word on Full Metal Alchemist series?? X-D)

Forgot to add: my device is Droid X by Motorola

I remember episode 92 of Naruto Shippuden had quality issues due to bad sources videos we were given. If you don't experience this problem with our more recent releases, then that would be why you are having problems. I'll see if we can get better sources videos for these problematic episodes.

The "Sorry, this video cannot be played error" is a generic error that gets displayed when anything goes wrong with the player. So the problem could be due to any number of issues but, in short, the Android video player is not refined enough yet to automatically retry the video when an error occurs. So I think everyone ends up seeing that error no matter what. The only way to resolve it would be for the Google Android team to make the video player more robust.

Hi admin for the droid app :)

I am using xperia x10 with android 2.1 and it unfortunately doesn't work on my phone.
I tried installing and uninstalling multiple times and with the droid system freshly installed, yet it always ended up to be:

(1) I clicked into the video. It only plays the sound after less than half a second of animation movements.
(2) When I try rewinding... The app end up forcequitting itself
(3) When I am frustrated and uninstalled the app, my phone runs weird no matter what I do (i.e. killing tasks) I had to restart my phone then things get back to normal

This is a different problem than the player failing right away.

I do not understand why the android phones are so inconsistent on performance even with the same system, almost the same hardwares, etc... I know quite a few people who bought games that won't work an their device at all after an update whilst supporting users with the newer platforms... I wonder how you would overcome this kind of stuff when developing the droid app :P

Please address this issue for x10 and I will thank you million times

Did the app ever work for you or did problems start happening after the app was updated?

Its sad the app never worked for me but I have only looked into and downloaded the app about less than a week ago. I wouldn't know how the previous versions would perform on the x10. I just know it didn't work at all the multiple times i downloaded the app.

If an app works for Droid x it will work on htc evo 4g or most other android devices so I don't really think saying what device you have really matter unless it from a company like archos which modifies a bunch of crap

I've Had the Crunchyroll App for two different Droid phones the Lg Optimus and the HTC my touch 4G and it has worked Great with little to no problems. The only video problem I've had was that episode 185 of Naruto Shippuden didn't have any subs. I have enjoyed the app a lot so my question is when are we going to get some more drama titles encoded for the droid app?

What is being done to fix the android app? I have installed this application a couple times on my HTC Evo Shift 4G and it frequently pops up with the error "sorry this video cannot be played" and quits the stream. I try to play it again and it force quits. I have been through this sequence MULTIPLE times and still cannot get it to play. I want to continue my subscription after the trial period but so far I am seriously underwhelmed by the quality of the apps and their inconsistancy.

App works great on my LG Optimus. Only thing is not having access to the catalog titles I've searched for in the menu, but I assume that's just because they're on the to-do list for encoding.

Great to hear - I'm seriously considering getting the LG Optimus V - which is also known as Optimus S in some circles. I'll be getting it on Virgin Mobile in the US - so I hope I'll have a similar experience.

I have downloaded the CR app to my Motorola Atrix, and it's not as crystal clear even compared to the 3GS. Is this just because the Atrix is new (and most of the apps are not even that configured to the hardware yet)???

Well the IPhone 3gs has a 3 5 inch screen and the motorola atrix has a 4 inch screen they both have 960 by 540 display since the iphone has a smaller screen it has a higher pixel density meaning more pixels per inch and that mean it will look more clear and stuff

Hello, I got the trial mostly so I can try out this app. And I am very happy with it, wipe there are some problems, I know it is still early in developent. But I do have some questions.

Are they planning on adding more anime to the app? And 3-5 times per episode the streaming crashes, its not to big of a deal, since you can just open it back up, and jump to your previous position. I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem, or knew a way to.fix it.

hey I have the HTC EVO 4G just signed up for a trial to try this out. It works great picture quality is great too. I love how you guys have it setup to use the built in android player, I can use my hdmi out to my flatscreen tv and it don't look to bad its more than watchable :D. It would be nice in the future if you had a somewhat higher quality stream to choose for phones that are capable of displaying onto a flatscreen tv through hdmi.

a good question I have though which I'm sure have already been answered.

the 6.95 membership I noticed does not have simulcast does that mean you have to wait a few hours or do you have to wait a week like everyone else with the free memberships? Cause I can just go on the mobile version and watch it without a premium and theres a few commercials but I really dont care.

I know the 6.95 used to include that too, I tried you guys out a while ago and said if you guys get it on my phone I'd definitely get a membership but that kinda sucks :(

Cause chances are I'm going to be using the anime a lot more on my phone. If thats the case its gonna be real hard to justify that I should spend $12 a month when netflix is $8 and I already have access to the whole anime library at higher quality that does not screen tear either. I buy dvds and such from time to time too. I already support japan creators. how much of my money goes to the creators percentage wise?

For those of you that say this app doesnt work, your probably running an old version of android like 1.6 which I doubt this app or most apps today work with. You probably need to be on atleast 2.1 android probably preferably 2.2. check your phones software version thatll tell you that you either need to a: Upgrade your phone B: Jailbreak/root it and upgrade it that way if its available. OR C: try downloading skyfire from the market and see if the mobile site works through it.

Also theres a few of you out there that mentioned sometimes it says video cannot be played. I believe its a bug in the android system when you don't have a good connection to a cell tower it tends to lag out and then show that message instead of trying again. Youtube used to do that alot before android updated its system. I don't think anything can be done about that till that bug is ironed out hopefully with android 2.3. unless crunchy roll uses its own player like youtube which, not sure if you do already I don't think you do. but if you do change it you better have hdmi support :D
Now when I go to anime conventions i can plug my phone in to the tv for everyone to watch Hell Yeah!!:D

Edit: actually its not screen tearing anymore atleast on my windows pc its not I'm gonna have to try it on my ubuntu box on my tv next thats impressive :D

Edit 2: apparently theres an addon for this on an unofficial repository for xbmc and I'm watching some dramas I normally can't get easily on my flat screen tv through my htpc box running ubuntu linux with xbmc as its main player. I might seriously keep the $12 membership not bad

Great news! Thanks for getting things worked out with the app so that non-premium members can watch videos now. I've noticed a number of simulcasts come on during the day, and now I might be able to watch some on my lunch break.

I've got a Motorola Milestone XT720 and I always get the "Sorry this Video cannot be played" Error, but after reading a few of the posts and quotes here I get the impression there's not much that can be done about it right now. That makes me sad, but I guess I'll just be looking forward to future update from Google and Crunchyroll.

Ever since the new update, I've been having difficulty logging into the Android App on my Samsung Captivate. It would say "Invalid E-Mail or Password", even though I know both details are correct, and confirming that I can log in on both my Android Browser and my Computer. =\

Not sure why, but the Fairy Tail episodes only go back 4 episodes to Ep66. I've tried refreshing, but I guess I can do a forced cache cleanout to see if that resolves the issue. I'm behind on Fairy Tail because of travel and was looking forward to catching up.

All other simulcast animes appear to show all the episodes including Bleach, so at this point only Fairy Tail doesn't show all episodes.

ALSO: Any idea when the Pause Video issue will be looked at?

Love the product and glad to have it!! Thanks CR and team.

Each episode of Fairy Tail is available for 30 days due to the terms of our negotiation to host the show here. So that is why there are only 4 episodes available.

Not sure about the pausing issue. Could be the next thing that is looked at since advertisements have been added in.
