This is what happened when I try to watch Anime without logging on.

First advertisement comes up, then few Minutes of anime follow by opening theme.

The problem starts when Cruncyroll's advertisement comes up. "Why do all anime fan get membership?" (something along the line of that) This is when the awkward pause started, and an error message shows "There was a problem playing the video, Please try again or contact support if the problem persist."

After reading through several posts here, I tried reinstalling the Crunchyroll app about 6-7 times, picking another video, restarting the tablet etc. but the problem persist in the exact same manner: the video paused and error occur right when Crunchyroll's advertisement show up regardless of Anime series or episode or whatever advertisement goes first.

I decided to subscribe to see if the problem occur without any ads, turned out, when Crunchyroll's advertisement don't show up, the video play smoothly.

Doubt it will get fixed though, since fixing means people stop their subscription.

You are assuming that CR is only doing what generates the $$$. But even if that's true, they'd still rather fix your problem than not.

After all, CR uses their free memberships as self-funding advertisements for their subscriptions. If the free memberships do not work correctly on some device, it will lose them new subscriptions, even if the problem goes away for the people who try a subscription.

Well, unfortunately, since you're not a Free Member right now I can't have you pull crash logs for the engineers.

Can you please tell me more about your device so I can see if we have a similar one in office that I can test on?

Having an issue with nexus 7, I have not seen any other post about this issue. When playing back video on any show with the CR app the video periodically gets distorted parts of the video freeze while other sections continue playback. The app does not freeze and after a moment video quotability is restored.
I ruin other video content like Netflix just fine, I have 20mb download speeds and can also watch video on my PC on the same network fine the problem is localized to the CR app.
Reinstalling has not helped, been waiting for a fix via update so far no luck, ruining latest version of jellybean not rooted and all other software is up to date

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome

Just a quick question, I've tried searching throughout the forum for an answer before I posted but haven't had much luck. I know that the android app used to have a noticeable video quality gap with IOS due to only the lowest quality version of videos being shown on the platform. Is that still the case? I installed it on my Nexus 7 to check it out and the quality was pretty bad, I have a fast connection so I'm trying to figure out if the problem is on my end or yours. Thanks.

Hello,

I've read a few post where people were having playback problems on their devices with the android crunchyroll app. I have had similar issues before on my htc one x where every video would just black screen, not load, show error message, just show a loading icon, and or crash. After hours of frustration, restarting my phone, and reinstalling apps. Not wanting to perform a Factory Reset, I did a little research and have found that its not always the app thats problem. If the crunchyroll app AND other streaming apps (youtube, hulu, netflix) are giving similar errors or playback problems, DELETE any .flv files on your devices whether its the sd card or internal memory. I recommend any .flv files wanting to be kept be transferred to a computer or external hd before deleting them from your phone. Many android devices dont support FLV files and are most likely the source of this problem. Do please note that this might not be a fix for everyone. Hope this helps.

This same thing is happening on both my Nexus 7 and my Nexus 10. It pretty much makes me not want to watch crunchyroll at all on these devices since half the time it is distorted which makes the viewing experience worthless. It would be awesome if this could get fixed as I love watching Anime while at the Gym on my tablet.

Hi,

I have an issue I was hoping someone might be able to resolve. I just picked up a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and noticed that the crunchyroll app isn't on the Amazon marketplace for tablet users. I did some searching and found an apk file through getjar, however, it's way different then what's on my Windows Phone version or Android Phone version (UI, etc...).

I don't really have a desire to root/sideload Google Play onto my Kindle so is there a direct download for the proper .apk? I've no idea why the Amazon marketplace CrunchyRoll app is not compatible with the Kindle Fire HD 8.9.

No there is not.
We have not built it out for the Kindle Fire HD yet. Hence why it is not in the market place.
We're working on it, but there are issues particular to this device which is holding things up.

You should be able to use the APK you downloaded for now.

Also the Windows app and Android app are totally different / made by different people. So, apologies for the difference.

Hi, I'm having issues with my mobile app on my android - Samsung Galaxy S3. My queue is no longer properly updating my progress of Naruto-. As of now it says I'm currently watching episode 18 but I am on episode 20. I noticed that the reason for this is because my progress of episode 18 always resets to the beginning of the episode (this is the case for all epusodes past 18 atm).

After going through a portion of this thread, I've yet to find anything that would lead me to believe there is any intention of providing a higher quality playback option for Android users, be they paying members or not. Apparently it used to be 240p, but is now 360p, which is completely unacceptable for the recent crop of 720p and now 1080p phones, not to mention all the tablets that can go even higher. I think I saw a post from over a year ago detailing plans for choosing a streaming quality within the app, but from what I can find, nothing has happened.

Can anyone with any authority state with any certainty if/when any of this can or will be resolved? I would love to be able to watch some stuff in a format that doesn't look like crap from the VHS bootleg days. Oh, and maybe support the hiding of the Android softkeys during playback would be nice too...
