Wish List: I want to see newly-posted videos in the order they were posted (newest first) from within the Android app. Like the "All-New Anime" section on the front page of the desktop version of the website. It's a pain to have to dig through each series to see if there's an episode I haven't seen yet. Being able to see what's newly available would be a big win over just browsing the catalog.

RE: Version 1.8b Android

This version doesn't work at all on my SE Xperia X10 (running Android 2.1). The first few versions worked quite well. However, this latest version gives either a static picture of the anime with the full audio running in the background or, a completely blank screen with the audio running in the background.

The original downloads Vers 1.0 or whatever, worked quite well for me. I had full video and audio.

I'm sure you can solve the problem. I haven't used the app in the past 2 weeks so I don't know what any versions released in the past 2 weeks have been like.

Hope this helps!

Their are still a ton of videos from the past week that haven't been fixed please fix them

Also can you make two seprate listings for Mitsudomoe. 1 for mitsudomoe and another mitsudomoe 2.

I will list the videos that aren't working

Mitsudomoe 2 Episode 1
Beelzebub Episode 1

Also can you please reply to the problems people are reporting or at least fix them?

o/

Just got the 1.8b app for my Motorola Defy (2.1) and tried a few eps, none of which worked.

Dragon Crisis Ep 1
Level E Ep 1
Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka? Ep 1

However, Episode 2 worked fine.

Guessing this is an encoder issue, clearly fixed with ep 2. Are you looking into fixing these Ep 1s?

All of the videos should play fine now. If anyone still has problems, please list the series and episode number so I can look at it.

Does it work over 3g? And what error does it give? Also, I believe there was someone else earlier in the thread that mentioned that it does not work on their Galaxy Tab. It also does not work on Archos Tablets. This could be an issue with tablets in general currently.

Which is actually my question. I notice now in the store that it states that Archos Tablets are currently not supported. Is there plan to have Tablet support in the future? And if you do, will you offer the higher quality streams to those devices? I've tried it recently on my Archos, and I know it still doesn't work (it crashes saying com.crunchroll.crunchyroid was forced to close). And although I do have 2 other android devices to potentially watch it on, and have enjoyed the viewing experience so far on my G2, the Archos 101 is a much better viewing option due to the larger screen and kickstand.

We have a Samsung Galaxy Tab that we test on and it works over WiFi. There is no 3G data plan on it so that's all we can test it on.

The problem with Archos is that they customize the OS and remove components which makes it a non-standard version of Android. Whatever they changed, causes our videos to not work on their devices.

Archos does have a modified video player, but I haven't had any issue playing any files, or any other apps that stream files. The types of files that the Archos can play are much much more broad that what a standard android phone would be able to play. The only types of files that do not play, and that you'd have to purchase, are files that a normal android phone would not be able to play anyways (Mpeg2 video, AC3 audio).

I do not know what other programs use video playback through the sdk (I can only guess). Other programs which stream in mp4 or aac/aac+ may have built in decoding I don't know about. But programs such as the youtube player, pandora, niconicoplayer(kari), etc. work fine. Crunchyroll also plays through the standard browser using flash (though with some stutter). Mp4/aac files play on the device fine, but play though the pre-installed video player.

Though about the Galaxy Tab, the only post I've seen referring to it in this thread has been this one:

wbear wrote:

Thanks for making the app, however it force closes whenever I try to load a video on my Samsung Galaxy Tab. The login process was fine.

I click play, the screen goes black (looks like loading video player) and says "Refreshing data. Please wait", and then force closes.

It happens on whatever video I try, and I've restarted the phone etc. I'm using wifi. Not sure what else to do to try and troubleshoot to fix it.

Hope you can sort it out so that the app is useable :)

Which also states that another user was having issues using it on the Galaxy Tab. Unless an update since then has fixed the issue that it was having on the galaxy tab. But the error that user was experiencing is the same one that the archos is currently experience, which is different from the problem that HereticusB was having (in the post you referenced).

For refernece the device plays standard (without paying anything extra):

Video:
• MPEG-4 HD (up to 720p, 30 fps@6Mbps)
• MPEG-4 (ASP@L5 AVI, up to DVD resolution, 30 fps@8Mbps)
• H.264 HD (HP@L3.1 up to 720p, 30 fps@5Mbps)
• WMV9/VC1 (AP up to 720p 30 fps@10Mbps)
• M-JPEG (Motion JPEG Video) in VGA resolution
With the above codecs, the device can play video files with the following extensions: AVI, MP4, MKV, MOV, WMV, MPG, PS, TS, VOB, FLV, RM, RMVB, ASF, 3GP

Audio:
• MP3 CBR & VBR
• WMA, WMA-Pro 5.1
• WAV (PCM/ADPCM)
• AAC, AAC+ 5.1
• OGG Vorbis
• FLAC

With a few small exceptions here and there (such as it having problems with mkv files with compressed headers, protected aac).

Having owned a gen 7 (A5IT) and gen8 (A43IT), I almost expect apps to crash and even Archos' own software too. The fact that you have to do some hack to even get the Android Market and the other proprietary Google apps is a good sign that installing apps will be at your own risk. I've experienced many apps crashing and sometimes even without a force close message. If the app doesn't crash, sometimes UI elements look weird too. I can't try the Crunchyroll app since I've sold my A43IT to some sucker. I still have the A5IT but it only has Android 1.6.

The only good thing about Archos devices is their local video file playback. Streaming them causes stutters even on 802.11n. Of course, the same videos stream fine to my laptop on 802.11g.

Just a few quick questions. I was talking to some friends whe are fans of anime and I got a chance to show off the Crunchyroll Droid App (I later sent them a 24hr pass to visit CR).

I did notice that some of the older anime was still not available (Last Exile, etc). Is there a time frame to get to the older anime that CR has?

As for the Droid App, is there any progress on getting the Pause to work properly? It would be helpful.

Look forward to when we can roll this out as Beta.

@Akukame: I understand that there's most likely a way for us to make the videos work for Archos devices but we don't have an Archos device to test with. Also, if we change our encodes, other devices are likely to experience problems. Our video encodes follow Android's standards and Archos devices are the only ones that I know of which consistently have problems playing our videos. So Archos must have different standards which makes it hard for us to support it. The point of a platform like Android was to make it easy to provide apps for a wide variety of devices but when manufacturers mess with the OS too much, it causes compatibility issues like this. I know it sucks but there just isn't much we can do about that at this time.

@tripperdan99: We no longer have the right to offer Last Exile here so that's not supposed to show up in the app listing. We're going to have the listing fixed so that it doesn't show any shows that are no longer available.

But we are still in the process of adding the rest of the videos that are missing so almost everything should be available by the end of this month.

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right place to report a bug in Android crunchyroll software but here goes!

If you try to start video (Press that Play button in the episode screen) and the software/device is in landscape mode -> Crash occurs.
I have HTC Wildfire.
