i think war is nearing. A lot of koreans are migrating here (they are good starcraft players)

my analysis in this situation is, the north may or may not have sink the warship and some 3rd party wants the war (for business or political reason). It all comes down to the point that they want S. Korea to do the first strike so the moral battle would be won by N. Korea. In this world of anti-war people, the starter is usually the bad guy.

China is quiet because they are trying to preserve their position. If N. Korea f***ed up, they'll condone N. Korea's act and will "do some measures" against it (the worst thing they can do is not helping N.Korea). On the other hand, if N. Korea won the moral battle, China would come in saying, " There cause is justified as they are trying to help their friend from their hostile neighbor" and their goal for power may be realized here.

Capitalist nations like America and Japan will benefit from this war. It's good business.

just like the korean war, korea will be another chessboard by other power blocks. Korea will be the loser again, no matter who wins. Their economy will fall down once again.

Well let's just hope it doesn't happen any time soon, although that may be a vain hope.

If war does break out then that entire region is going to feel it, not just the two Koreas. In terms of a war involving nothing but raw military might, and assuming China doesn't get involved (Which are two enormous and highly unlikely assumptions), then yes the 'capitalists' would win. But bear in mind that N.Korea is a nuclear/bio armed nation, with missles. Sure, said missiles can probably not hit most of the US, but they can sure as hell strike S.Korea, Japan and other Asian countries, not to mention China if the People's Army doesn't chip in (Which gives China a big reason to be very concerned). As they begin to lose the ground war, they would dig into the forests and the hills in deep, deep holes and start lashing out at everyone in range. Vietnam +100 (Protip, the original Vietnam didn't go well).

This would be a Bad thing with an enormous capital B. Sure Kim Jong-il is an asshat, everyone knows that, and we're all glad as shit we weren't born in N.Korea, but this isn't like Iraq or Afghanistan where you can just roll in with the big guns and impose your will on the natives, and the largest threat you face is increased numbers of extremists and IED's, and disapproval in the polls. This is major world players, alliances, backroom deals, webs of deciet, media lies & propoganda and all manner of nasty death pointed at civilian populations around the world. Equates to a possible war between two superpowers, and could even spark a global conflict.

We need to either think of a way to quietly assassinate the idiot and all of his generals, or just chill the fuck out. There are no alternatives, and I hope to god our governments don't think that there are.

It will happen but i really wish it wouldnt. The US will get involved and its going to be my generation of people who are going to do the fighting. Oh and theres always the possibility of WW3 and getting drafted and killed in it

doubtful that there's gonna be a draft. The military is so full because they provide many benefits and create livings for some people, whether it be temporary for college, or for life. In fact, the marines are actually trying back off recruiting because it is so full

I don't think even Kim Jong-il is crazy enough to attack China.

Well out of context I'd agree, but what I was saying was that if the North was being overrun and China wasn't backing them up, then yes, they most likely would.

If you've got nothing to lose and are beaten into a corner, and surrender is about as likely as Arnie suddenly announcing that he's gay, then you lash out at as many people as possible to make your presence felt, and to 'go down swinging' as it were, striking those who you percieve to be against you and those who (In your eyes) betrayed you.

Regardless, that scenario would involve China NOT getting involved, which is unlikely to say the least.

I think the north and south are at war. It was never called off. There's just no actual fighting going on.

I tend to think China will go with whatever is in their best interest; they will see what everyone else does before throwing in their chips on N. Korea's side. And without backup, N. Korea would be silly for trying to push a war (or rather an end to the cease-fire). Maybe they are chomping at the bit a little just to see what China will do - whether they will get backed up or not. China isn't one to jump the gun though, and they really have no reason to. They are a power in their own rights, and don't need N. Korea to reinforce their presence.
I think this will probably blow up in the future though, but it is hard to tell how everyone will react. I would love to see this all handled diplomatically, but sometimes swift and decisive blows save years of war...if that is what it will take, then it does. Rather that then N. Korea coming up with some really nasty nukes and be able to use them to bully all their neighbors or cause a global disaster. So far they don't have the capability to hit far off targets...but I really don't know that we should wait around until they do...
