Well, since this is a site of anime i'd say

Nujabes: OST Samurai Shamploo and his feats with Minmi

Satoru Kōsaki: This guy composed three of the most memorables ost (at least to me) yeah the ost of the Monogatari Series, Lucky Star and Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuutsu

Hajime Hyakkoku: who is responsable of the OST of K-on And the authors of the songs of the band

Nakaido Reichi: OST Serial Experiments Lain

and about western music i'd say Gorillaz, Sonic Youth, The dead wather and Frank Zappa

Parliament-Funkadelic - One of the baddest groups of the 70s that was one band under 2 names, had over 100 members at its peak, created its own sub-genre, P-Funk, and 18 different spin-off acts during its reign.
War - Another kingpin of a group during the 70s that was a multi-ethnical stew of a band with a Brit in Eric Burdon, a Danish harmonica player in Lee Oskar, and a sound off the streets of LA that was very much collard greens and tamales and what I mean by that is they were a Latin-Soul-Funk band.
Sly & The Family Stone - Psychedelic Soul pioneer from the Bay Area that also contributed very much to the Funk genre that gained popularity during the Hippie movement of the late 60s and early 70s after they performed at WoodStock with hits like Everyday People, I Want to Take You Higher, and Family Affair.
Kool & The Gang - A Jazz based, and Funk infused band that got its start during the early 60s and are still going today with hits like Ladies Night, Celebration, and my personal favorite, Summer Madness.
Marvin Gaye - A man with the power to move with his voice, often protested, and provided social commentary through his music which is still very relevant (maybe even more so) in modern society. If he was alive today he would be outraged and be very outspoken.
2Pac - A man who's image is very much immortalized through not only his music, but his fans and many tributes and his facade hid a very outspoken and intelligent man within. Many did not appreciate or shied away from his word which were a horrible but very much real truth that is very much alive today and needs to be addressed, an activist owing to the fact that his parents were Black Panthers.

I can list many more but I think this is enough.
