Will the simulcast provide the omakes included at the end of the bleach episodes as DB did? To me that was one of the best parts of the series (the shinigami cup, encyclopedias, etc.) It'd be a shame to get the show but lose the omakes.

BasouKazuma wrote Many like Dattebayo's subtitles due to the addition of swear words, how they keep the Japanese honorifics intact and how some other Japanese words are left untranslated.

Wow... that some seriously wrong BS right there.

1. Dattebayo subs rarely feature swearing at all and such vulgarities are usually reserved for characters that are in fact incredibly crude.

2. Nearly everybody keeps honorfics intact on subs, both fansubs and professional. This is not a note worthy trait.

3. Dattebayo recently began leaving FEWER words untranslated (attack names). And they are a hell of a lot more thoughtful about it than some professional subs I could mention... (Jutsu jutsu jutsu jutsu jutsu)

4. Finally, none of that has any reason why people liked Dattebayo's subs. People like them because they are fast, accurate, and generally well thought out.

People want them involved with the Viz subs because they've been subbing this show for years. They are the ones that sparked the demand for this simulcast in the first place and you're going to have a hundred thousand viewers moving over from them to CR.

Nobody (with a brain) is asking you to let DB keep subbing Bleach. What has been asked is that somebody at CR leave a note for somebody at Viz that says "Hey, there are these guys that have more experience subbing Bleach than pretty much anybody in the world and have a huge following. It wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a call and have them consult on this project. Not only would it probably make things easier for you, but it'd generate a ton of goodwill from your fanbase."

However, in the over thousand posts on the forum on that topic, it would have been asked over a hundred times, so that would qualify as a frequently asked question that ought to be addressed.

Sometimes it was asked quite nicely, sometimes asked with a bit of animus or venom. But in my view, insulting the intelligence of those asking the question is a less constructive approach than answering their question.

I am curious if there is any pressure or encouragement that could be applied to VIZ through Crunchy Roll in order to adjust or change their policies and practices in regard to subs. If they want to sell Naruto to Disney and make the sale by Disney-fying the language that is fine, but would like an alternate version of the subs available for serious fans of bleach, naruto, etc. to be able to have an unedited version.

Can Crunchyroll provide subtitles from Dattebayo for Naruto and/or Bleach?
This is something that is up to our Publishers. We currently have no control over this and there are no loopholes that will allow this to be done. So no, we can not provide alternate subtitles since we are only allowed to offer VIZ Media's subtitles at this time. If we are ever given permission to provide subtitles for them, we would provide an alternative which contains most of the elements that people have come to like from Dattebayo's fansubs. We already have a system set up to provide multiple/optional subtitles but we need permission from our Publishers in order to utilize it.

Wow... come to think of it that is very awesome! I'm wondering, by what means would Viz media support distribution of their licensed content as RAW, instead of pre-subtitled? I think that would certainly empower the content distributors, but surely would have some legal implications. How would the community go about speaking their mind to Viz media that we would like to see Dattebayo continue in a constructive and legal method to providing the quality work they have, this time with thanks from the publishers?

I find that most commercially available subs have a habit of editing out cultural humor, references, or 'brush under the rug' a lot of the locale that makes anime make sense to their primary audience. If the viewer doesn't want to be part of the primary audience, then I personally believe that they should watch something else. Vice-versa, someone who is not xenophobic and wants to learn a little culture beyond their own small worldly exposure should embrace such things, and heck, even learn and enjoy/gain from the experience!

Personally, viewing the Japanese art and eventually anime series' at a very young age attracted me to the genre, which has resulted in two trips to Japan, including my own wedding there, and numerous manga and pressed DVD purchases inside the country and exported. This is in large part to initial exposure not hiding the culture, and I for one believe that Dattebayo has done a good job educating people about it, instead of hiding it. I continue to consume and desire to pay for it, but I feel that the quality can improve, and feel that for Bleach that ideal group has been Dattebayo - hence their presence, allure, and my full support of their decision to drop the project to help CR and others acquire and distribute legally this content! I'd still love to see them continue in a constructive manner in Bleach... so does that mean a petition to Viz just like CR petitioned to acquire rights to Bleach in the first place?

You should know that Viz translates the omake episodes (for the lack of a better term) at the end of Naruto Shippuden. Also, the TV Tokyo is the uploader, so why would they purposely remove something they created unless there is an issue with the content? The people who translate Reborn do the same thing, so the answer to your question would be most likely.

HS works on the downlow, so they probably won't get killed, but they are open to all the measures available when lazy rip-off artists have the spotlight shown on them. That includes the rights owner joining the torrent download to collect IP addresses of those uploading the material illegally.

Some people do not understand that when they join a torrent download, unless they are a total torrent leech, they are also uploading, and if its a bootleg, the upload is illegal. That's one reason the leech streams are more popular, the torrent downloading opens people up to a sting operation.

Based on the update to the FAQ, it seems that pressure has already been applied through the petition. VizMedia will of course not add extra swearing that is not in the original Japanese, like DB did, but they have announced they will be using a more sophisticated style guide than the one on their DVD hybrid releases.

However, the place to go to apply pressure on VizMedia would be their site.

Its not VizMedia's decision - they have been chosen by the original creators, TV Tokyo, Studio Pierrot and Sueisha to do the subtitle, and permission for "hobbyist subtitles" would come from them. To underline which side is the boss, Sueisha (the publisher of the Bleach manga in Japan) is part-owner of VizMedia.

The legal issue is that a translation is a derivative work, and copyright permission is required from both the original copyright owner and the translation creator.

In a site upload, permission from the translation creator just means the standard Terms and Conditions - people could only upload scripts they had written, and people who uploaded scripts written by others without permission would be banned and the script taken down.

The legal obstacle is, and has always been since CR went legit, permission from the original copyright owner. Traditionally in the anime industry, subtitles have been commissioned by international distributors, and then the rights to the subtitles revert to the original rights owner. So for member contributed scripts, the members would have to be comfortable with the original rights owners owning the script and being able to do anything else they wanted with it.

However, the anime studios and their finance partners have also traditionally had final approval on the subtitle if they cared to exercise it, and for member contributed subtitles to work properly, they would be uploaded and there would be a system for viewers to rate them up or down. And that open system is something the content owners in Japan are likely to be uncomfortable with. So they would have to be convinced that it would provide substantially more streaming income.

Obviously, you can't advertise bootleg sites in the forums, especially if CR streams the shows, and especially if they are just lazy rip-offs from CR. That includes both links and google search terms. Supporting fans in the CR forums will report those kinds of posts to the mods when we see them.

If the group comes up on the first page in google when you use the name, its obviously not abbreviated enough. For example, DB gets hits on Decibels and HS gets hits on High School.

Good stuff, thank you.
As for your CR points. You own points by posting in the forums. Everytime I deleted your post your CR points automatically got deducted off since your post doesn't exist anymore. It's okay, crunchyroll points are lame anyway.

----Boring stuff read if you are bored--------

Yo,

So i was reading the whole region explanation that someone posted in the other topic before it got raided and i was wondering if it is actually normal that the Netherlands have the license to get the stream but Belgium doesn't. Isn't it the same region? Cause i can't even buy the DVD cause nothing comes out here about Anime. Like a few other countries we rely on CR or other less legal ways.

Like i said in the other topic i have no issues paying/supporting the animators but i somehow doubt that the regions allowed on CR are correct to what the allowed regions are according to the license.

I've also noticed that even though CR tries almost no new animes get added for EU. Even though a few had a license to be shown in ex. belgium. There once was a site where you could check if the anime is licensed in your country and by whome and it most of my cases i even had the same license holder with america.

I even think that CR should warn about the limit you get when you buy a CR package. (i just like the star ... <--- GEEK)
Anyhow ever since CR was forced to obey the rules all i hear is we are trying. But as an EU geek i havn't seen much happen towards us.

Peace,
Sleeper

---Warned you didn't i?-----

PS: Viz has license to air in EU still belgium according to CR isn't there. I know we are small but we are like that spot on your map wich you think is a fly
