I used to watch Shippuden and Bleach on DB, and I think what they did for fansubs and anime as a whole is great. I really enjoyed their fansubs. I also don't feel sorry for DB, or really bad for them either. They're stopping their fansubbing of Bleach in support of a legal alternative, which I think only makes me want to support their further contributions even more.

I also think that CR does a wonderful job for what they do for anime as well. I don't have a problem paying to watch something I really enjoy, especially when there's so much of it here.

As for the small changes in translation, you really do get used to it.

Gonna miss DB's subs, but the tradeoff is being able to see it the moment I wake on Tuesday morning from seeing it around 8:00 to as late as Wednesday morning? Well, my mind is made up for me CR Bleach please!

To be honest i have no interest attempting to adjust to crunchyroll because of A its not free, B why would i pay for poor quality? if i wanted that id just watch it on tv, someone else will no doubt sub it, it may not be DB quality, but atleast it might be more true to the nature of the characters than crunchy roll.

It is free. You just have to wait a week and watch ads if you do not want to pay.

I really need to learn Japanese so its irrelevant though, like you are ^.^

If you learn it well, you will find out your assertion about censoring doesn't hold water.

That is a rather Naive statement you made, Viz is subbing it, it WILL BE CENSORED that is what they do, ever watched subbed naruto by Viz? they censored every single word that might be offensive, utterly changing how characters in situations are perceived, and that's generally only the start of it, rule one when an American corporation takes it on or whats to distribute it to mainstream America they want to appeal to the biggest group, aka kids are their intended audience, they do not give a rats ass about us that respect anime.

I watched Naruto and Bleach for the longest time on DB, I'm glad that they both came to CR so I can support them properly. Unfortunately now DB doesn't have any animes that I like, so it's seems like it's farewell to DB for me at least

The main problem i have with crunchyroll providing the episodes is the censoreship from viz(quality of subbing too). To be honest i never really supported anime, so it means i never bought the dvd of an anime i ever saw in my life. But im a big time manga supporter. Even though if i already saw an episode in an anime i still buy the manga and vice versa. What i really hate from reading manga or anime is when they child proof everything. From cursing to even references to culture and such. What viz should do is create a seperate unrated subs or something. THAT ill be willing to pay.

On the final note. Great job dattebayo ur crappy sense of humor and dedicated quality to us fans has been magical You'll be sorely missed by us bleach fans I'll be your watching your last subbed episode of bleach with tears in my eyes.

Its not really the fansubs that are doing the serious damage to the market, its the leech streaming sites. The market was booming quite nicely in the US from the mid-90's to around 2003 side by side with the fansubs. The first wave was the free streaming sites themselves - YouTube, VEOH, Megavideo, and, yes, Crunchyroll ... and then the industry reacted, and the free streaming sites started taking down copyright violating streams.

That put people in a problem - if you tried to spread the word on the streaming site, it attracts a C&D and gets taken down. But if you don't spread the word, nobody watches it? So the leech streaming sites got started, where people would try to upload on the sly, and then point to the actual stream with a player at the leech streaming site. And even better, the people running the leech streaming site could sell advertising, to make it self supporting, or even profitable.

For one perspective, read the DB FAQ on uploading their releases to the big free video streaming sites. DB is very explicit in asking people to not do that. But the leech streaming sites don't care, they are just trying to get the views to get ad revenue to cover their site costs, and if that works, get even more views to get a profit.

One day, the Japanese companies will get the idea that they can get localization contributed by fans for free and then use that to make their work available to a wider audience. When that happens, fansubs will all move over to legit "hobbyist subtitles" and the bootlegs will be left entirely to the stream and DVD rip-off artists. Crunchyroll already has the software in place to do it - they just need permission from the creators of the original work to get started.

VizMedia has announced that they are doing a more sophisticated sub for the simulcast than they were doing for the hybrid DVD release, with honorifics and more Japanese names for terms rather than trying to translate absolutely every term. I would not be surprised if the simulcast subtitles end up on a DVD as an alternate subtitle track.

However, AFAIU, they are going to stick to their policy of not putting in extra swearing that is not in the original Japanese version. The anime in Japan does not have as much swearing as the manga, because its not broadcast in the late night timeslots that allow R-rated broadcast.

If you've seen the earlier VizMedia subs, the DB subs, and some of the simulcast subs now, how do they compare?

I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of anime. I still buy it when I can. I'm sad that DB is stopping it's fan subs, I've been watching them from the first episode they started on, even with Naruto. But this format brings them in hi-def and is definitely well worth the purchase. Support the below the line people that bring you those great anime you love.

Hmm like I read on DB's news section, there were like twice as much downloaders from their torrents then CR needed votes. What is CR trying to do? Get everyone to watch anime trough their site? Isn't that a bit egoistic.. Not everyone has the cash for a premium membershp, or is willing to pay.. so yea let's let them just wait a week longer.

Seriously I think by doing this to anime it will reach a smaller audience. But as the voting already has taken place not much to do about it now. I should have been sooner with my comments. As for streaming sites, they all suck downloading and collecting the anime and then buying the ones I loved on dvd, that's what I do. I guess everything in life goes trough changes and phases and anime is no exception. I hope I will still be able to watch my favorite shows on my terms in the future.

Right, time to whip out my old quote AGAIN....;

That's the thing though- there's isn't any actual swearing in the Japanese versions to begin with. 'Damn' and 'bastard' are as far as it goes. That's what they actually say in Japanese. They don't go around telling each other to go fuck themselves, despite what Dattebayo might have you think- they added in that swearing themselves, and it's not actually part of the original Japanese script.

It's not that the official subtitles on Crunchyroll censor the swearing, because there wasn't any to begin with. What it means is that they simply don't go around adding in swearing like Dattebayo did.

Former DB veteran watcher myself as of last Sunday. I saw the $20 back with Paypal for Premium and figured what the hell since I've been looking for a great site to expand my anime watching horizons in addition to keeping up with Bleach. I'm very impressed with the selection and the quality offered for the streams. Most importantly, now I don't have to use up HDD space :P

I look forward to being a long time member, even if I have to drop Premium membership due to unforeseen money issues down the road.

the important thing here is not the money... ( i would pay for it ) i was using DB as my bleach source because of their subs i don't like the current subs of crunchyroll it reminds me of our TV series of naruto in germany ..its annoying they are only talking about shit and it makes no sense at all, because its made for kids, no blood , nothing!, hidan is no crazy guy he's some holy religious guy who is using some weird tricks to wound the enemy without spilling any blood. Sherlock would say :"thats a mystery even i can't crack ;D" that was one reason i started watching online but wayne the thing i want to say is that the significance of common speech is more of importance for choosing ;)

PS: i hope my english isn't that baaaaad^^ if so, feel sorry for me and correct me i promise i won't get mad ;p
greetz from germany ^^
