This was already a question asked on Cosplay.com but I wanted to hear the people from Crunchyroll.

I was planning to do a cosplay of Lenalee Lee (D.Gray-Man) in her second uniform and already found someone to sew it for me. All I needed was to get my exact measurements and asked my mom (nicely) if she could help me get them. Unfortunately, she said that doing cosplay is just a complete waste of time and money. I tried telling her that I would only do it once (just to experience it!) but she still didn't approve of it and suggested that I go to my aunt's place (she lives near our place) and ask her to take the measurements instead.

As for my dad, he's pretty much alright with it. As long as it won't cost too much and that I was happy. Heh, he even took pictures of me when I trying to imitate Hibari Kyouya and he's obviously a male character!

So yeah, overall, it's like a 50-50 case here. One parent thinks it's pointless, the other thinks it's alright.

What about your folks guys? What was your situation like when you were planning to do your first cosplay? Share your stories and give me ideas on how I could convince my mom more that it's not some child's thing only!

EDIT: Please post only something that is relevant to the topic. Thank you.

My parents would totally approve it, but... first things first, I have to find someone to cosplay as!
Oh, and... trying to convince parents is a pain. Parents tend to be kinda stubborn, so it will be difficult to convince her that cosplaying isn't childish... Good luck though!

My dad doesn't care, but my mom's beyond supportive. She even asked if there were any anime characters who looked like her so she could "blend in" at the anime convention we were going to

My parents are perfectly okay with it. My mom's even going to help me make my Heartless and Riku cosplays. I'm planning on asking for her help when I start on my Gokudera cosplay as well. My dad pretty much encourages it. He knows it's a way of expressing myself. He had even told me to "dress up" for the convention in November XD

My Mother loves me cosplaying...
She likes seeing me sewing or trying to bind my boobs... makes her laugh or lets her have something to talk to me about for once =/
Father says it abit of a waste of money...but don't really care..
So tbh they're pretty supportive of it =]

But if you could, do you think your parents would support or dismiss your idea?

Never tried it, but if I did, my mom wouldn't care as long as I'm not asking for money to buy the costumes.
