Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as Dean and Sam Winchester, two brothers who travel the country looking for their missing father and battling evil spirits along the way.

Sam Winchester is a college student bound for law school, determined to escape his family's past - unlike his older brother, Dean. Ever since they were little their father has been consumed with an obsession to find the evil forces that murdered his beloved wife, in result recruiting and training his two young sons to help him in revenge. They have grown up as hunters of the supernatural. Sam escaped under the premise of going to college, and now has a happy life with his girlfriend, Jessica, and a promising future career. Dean, however, stayed behind with his father to join him in his "hunting".

Dean goes to Sam for help when their father goes missing. Now Sam must join his brother to find him. His one weekend trip to search for the missing John Winchester becomes an ongoing quest after a horrible tragedy ruins any thought of a happy life for Sam.

The two brothers, bound by tragedy and blood to their mission, travel across the country encountering terrifying and dangerous forces most believe to be nothing but superstition and folklore, such as the Lady in White, the Indian beast known as the Wendigo, Phantom Travelers who cause plane crashes, Bloody Mary, vampires, demons and many more.

I wonder how close they are going to follow the storyline and characters from the TV show? It wouldn't surprise me if they made Sam and Dean younger, add a girl to the plotline, etc. If they really want to do a ghost/supernatural type series, they should just make a 2nd season of Ghost Hunt. I can't imagine this being much different content-wise... and it will just be strange considering that so many of the things that make Supernatural great aren't going to "translate" culturally. Maybe Dean will wind up being obsessed with Visual Kei instead of Classic Rock o_O hehe.

The biggest differences between Supernatural and Ghost Hunt are Supernatural having a more wider cast (who are also more compelling), more supernatural things to offer other than ghost, and has a more epic adventure.

Although Ghost Hunt s2 would be nice to see.

but that is the actual tv show... just because the show in the us is like that doesn't mean the adaptation will be. also, since they are only basing the anime adaptation off of season 1 and part of season 2, the only characters that appear more than once are sam & dean.... the most any other character appears in during the first 2 seasons is a grand total of 3 episodes (their father, meg, bobby). that isn't exactly a bigger cast compared to ghost hunt.. it's 2 regulars (supernatural) vs. 7 regulars (ghost hunt - mai, naru, lin, bou-san, masako, ayako, john). and really, all they deal with in the first two seasons are ghosts, then a few episodes with other random things -- shapeshifters, vampires, more western myths (bloody mary, for example) etc. i also doubt they will let them remain the same age... seriously, how many anime shows do you see where the leading characters are over 25?

personally, i think they would have been better off adapting the more recent seasons with either ruby and trying to kill lillith or castiel and the angels vs. demons/end of the world type stuff rather than the beginning 2 seasons which are really more "'monster of the week." the only continuing plotline throughout the beginning is what the yellow-eyed demon did to sam and what his powers are, and that isn't resolved until the 3rd season... so if they are just adapting the first two, they might not even be able to really use that. :-/

we already have 5 seasons worth of episodes here to develop sam & dean as characters... i don't think they will be able to do them justice (or even be able to do the first 2 seasons justice) by trying to condense nearly 50 hour-long episodes into 24-ish 20 minute episodes. it's just going to be really hard to culturally adapt the series and find a middle ground if they are looking for something that will still appeal to japanese audiences.

Castiel isn't in the first two seasons, so he won't be in the anime :-/

fingers crossed... hopefully we don't wind up with sam & dean as bishounen teenagers with some yaoi feel.... eek. that would be a disaster. if they really wanted to adapt a "darker' us tv show into an anime, i think vampire diaries would have been the better choice. it would crossover better, since there isn't anything about it that is so distinctly western like there is in supernatural. but the problem there would be the cost.. permission and paying both the tv studio and the author, since it's based on a book.

i'm still going to say the best adaptation for supernatural would be season 3 (when sam and dean hunt for lillith) since it only deals with demons, so there aren't any western myths that would need to be changed and it isn't so much biblical like the more recent seasons with the apocolapyse. it also has the biggest cast, since bobby is a regular by then, and there are also female characters that become regulars... ruby and bella (i think that is her name.. the girl that steals and resells the different artifacts and information and keeps getting in their way). it's just more of a contained plotline, more characters, and less that would need to be changed.

I hope it turns out well too. I am bit disappointed that they are retelling some of the story lines. I was hoping it would be entirely new things, but it sounds like we are getting original story lines in the mix as well. I hope they have the RL actors do their characters' voices. That would be so much fun!
