I'm curious if I'm the only one that misses the translations for the special abilities in the bleach releases.
I find it interesting what the special names of the abilities mean, and not having the translations kinda puts a damper on my bleach watching. Is there a reason this isn't included in the subs? |

you can always just look it up, but to the point my guess is that since Viz does the dub for Bleach and for the attacks they keep the Japanese names and in some cases Spanish, so they thought it would be best to keep it in the original language. sooner or later they might change it to also include a translation of the attacks. I think the streaming for bleach is just like a trial period so Viz can figure out how and what kind of subs to put on the dvds they sell and fix any problems with the translation.

personally I like it un-translated for bleach since some of the special attacks translate out kinda strangely for example ichigo's
"getsuga tensho" DB translated as "lunar shocking heavens fang" to me that just sounds goofy compared to the actual japanese words for it. Though I probably prefer it since it makes me think of street fighter and the likes. though curiously I prefer the opposite for Naruto since they come out a little more clear than Bleach |

true it can be a little wonky, though I don't know why it couldn't be made a little more english friendly.... "Heaven shocking lunar fang"....... though it is still a little out there.
I guess goofy or not I just prefer them. |

I've seen some subbers keep the it untranslated but give the definition at the top of the screen. I prefer it that way.
"Getsuga Tenshou" could be translated a few different ways like "Moon's Fang Pierces Heaven", or "Lunar Fang Sky Shock" etc. |

I like when the translation is given as a 'footnote' at the top, that way you get the best of both worlds; the original and the literal translation. |

Wish I could add more to this, but since I agree in every aspect, there's really nothing more to say. |

I personally prefer fansubs where they write in both the name of the attack in Japanese and have it translated to English at the top. Some people might think this is too much crap on the screen, but it doesn't bother me.
