Best game of the day, but I wish the USA would have capitalized.

Maybe now people will realize we don't totally fail at soccer...just a little.

A great start for the USA, let's see how Japan will do in their first match.

Now, I've had enough soccer for the day, back to animu!!!

well i have high hopes on Spain, Argentina, Germany, Brasil and France, off course, though their performance yesterday left a lot to be desired.

USA SCORES!!!!

I can't believe he let that go in?!?!?

I know, TeamUSA failed to score on two chances in the first half, but got a goal anyway.

Someone on Twitter said, "USA Wins! 1-1!", and 1-1 feels a lot more like a win to USA than to England.

We'll not know who has a chance until the qualifiers are over and anything can happen during that time.

Argentina won't win, they have players of amazing quality but a, lets say, less than qualified manager for the world stage, they struggled like crazy against Nigeria. Brazil are always strong and should never be discounted. Spain has an amazing starting 11 as well as amazing players on the bench so "should" go through.

If I were a betting man, I would bet on England (even though I'm Welsh), they totally dominated the US and that one fluke with the ball cost England the 3 points, the US and England "should" come top 2 and qualify, but because neither won they could find themselves put under pressure to win which makes a match more difficult.

Let's face it, the World Cup is something Americans are not familiar with, the vast majority of Americans would struggle to name 3 starting 11's from tonights match and most were looking forward to tonights game of the US vs Manchester United (even though only 1 player was from United.... though Joe Cole is going on a free so may be picked up by United). All the pressure for tonights match was on England, they were expected to win, that adds pressure to the situation, the US team were underdogs so have no pressure to win, but with a 1-1 draw the pressure is on both teams to win both their next matches or not qualify, that'll be interesting.

Who is going to win though, no one knows. If a team loses a star players (Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo etc.) then you could say their campaign is over, a string of draws in the qualifier means they may lose out. It's never over until the final whistle, and even then it could go to penalties which would really hit England hard... but yeah, I'm betting on England to lift the trophy this year after their display of dominance over the US, much improved over their wins against Mexico and Japan recently.

England dominated much of the first half, but in the second half they showed a lot of frailty in the central midfield and down the sides ... they still do not have a replacement holder to win the ball in the midfield and distribute to the side where the attack is on, and if a championship team is built from the back, they are built on a fragile foundation.

The US is not coming to the World Cup with their fans expecting to see then in the final game, like England, Brazil, Spain, Argentina, or Italy, but after the early setback, they played a lot more like the team that went to the Confederations Cup final than the one that went to the last World Cup hoping to defend and snatch a goal on the counter and ended up folding their tent and going meekly home.

And, sure, maybe only 1 in 10 Americans know anything about association football, but on the other hand, 1 out of 10 Americans is 30 million, which is on par with a lot of nations that have experienced substantial success at the World Cup.

Tomorrow, Australia!!!

I'm supporting New Zealand all the way!

Though in support of a team that might actually win, go England.
