Yea...I was just wondering if Japanese life is really like the way it is in Anime like School Life anime and Slice of Life anime for example, Karaoke box, Arcade rooms, Kids walk to and from school, all those festivals and stuff, kids hanging out until late at night and there parents don't mind. Uhh, chilling on the rooftops at school, walking or taking the train EVERYWHERE.... and other stuff that i'll add later haha cuz i can't think of anymore

Haha i can tell you that it is like that since i did live there. I mean not all kids just walk around late at night especially young kids but i think for most part how late they stay out and stuff depends on the parents like here in america. I always walked to school every day as a kid when i lived there and the walk wasnt short and i went out at night too sometimes not to hangout with friends but to go to stores and stuff and back then i was only like 8 and the karaoke and arcade games are just like in the anime and another thing is in japan i could buy cigarettes and beer and stuff without a problem even tho i was a kid. so there are truth to those animes

Seems like someone is watching too much anime. I'm sure Japan isn't that way. If we believed everything we saw in cartoons our views will be warped.

I was always jealous of how u see in animes a few students who r friends wud leave school n walk around n go to stores etc. also it seems they always have a little snack money n know where everything is and how to get there (taking trains, going to parks and shops)

Not really, my cousin told me...

Alot of Japanese students, especially High School
students focus on their studies (even when they have spare time) so there are less sports in
Japan they play Tennis though. Their are more adults then children in Japan
If they continue to do that, The Japanese economis is gonna collaps.

Actually, most kids if not all do walk to school. All middle schools(7-9 grade) and high schools (10- 12) do have uniforms that very much resemble the uniforms on the slice of life animes. Since in japan they have backpack alarms which are something that beeps like an alarm clock a child is being abducted or mugged, some even call the police automatically! This is why children are safe late at night though usually kids arent in a place where there arent any parents of students at school. When students are walking to school, most schools have the school PTA members stand in orange vests and act as "crossing guards" so students can safely walk to school with their friends- and their friends only. (without parents) I am not so sure about the walking on rooftops of schools but probably so because most schools have pools on the roof of the campus building. The arcades are very much real because when i was in japan we went to the arcade at the mall everyday and took pictures in the photobooths called purikura............ Yes, there are many festivals and there are always people from most if not all school teachers/workers running or just visiting.. All students usually stop at a cobini - or convinient store- on their way home.

Middle school and above is less picturesque and far more like Western society. Sex, drugs and such.

That's like saying "Gossip Girl" is a perfect representation of an average American school life for a teenager.

Agreed. The "Japan" shown through animes are idealistic, and stereotypical, just as with Paris or New York. There's usually a grain of truth but it's not necessarily all true either.
